Happy National Homeownership Month!

At Habitat Anderson, we have the privilege of walking alongside aspiring homeowners every day, and we want to take any opportunity we have to celebrate their wins. Throughout June, we’ll be sharing Thursday's Tales of Homeownership—stories from some of the incredible people who have partnered with Habitat to achieve their dreams of homeownership.

Today - June 4th - marks two years since we dedicated Claudine's Habitat home!

Claudine devoted much of her life to raising her 11 children alongside her husband before she became a widow in 2015. In her early 80s, she found herself in an unsafe living situation. That’s when she discovered Habitat Anderson. Today, Claudine has a safe, affordable home where she can comfortably age in place. While reflecting on her experience in our program, she shared, "I can honestly say it’s a family. From the first day I walked in everybody made sure I was comfortable. I couldn’t ask for a better experience. I know God is in this building and in this company."

Volunteers from Chomarat have kept the Give Back magic flowing with outstanding volunteers as part of their 2026 Give Back Partnership! They came out last Friday ready to do whatever the construction crew asked of them, and we couldn't appreciate them more! Thank you, Chomarat, for giving back to the Anderson community!

For years, employees from Michelin US 8 have been among Habitat's most dedicated volunteers, and we are thrilled to have them back as Give Back Partners this year! Several employees from the plant were able to join us in raising the walls on a new home last week—just another achievement in our incredible long-term partnership. Thank you, US 8!

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We are grateful for their sacrifice and the freedoms it protects.

In observance of Memorial Day, the Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County back office will be closed on Monday, May 25, and the ReStore will be closed on Saturday, May 23.

We are so excited to launch our Senior Cottage Program this spring! Thanks to the generosity of Publix Super Markets Charities and Anderson County, we have the chance to build our first of many one-bedroom, one-bathroom affordable homes for individuals 55+. If you or someone you know might be interested, please come to one of the information sessions listed on the flyer! All of them will be held at the Anderson County Main Library in Meeting Room A.

This is something brand new we're doing, so make sure you come by and hear all the exciting details about the cottage program itself and how to apply! We can't wait to meet our community in this new way.

Having your own home means being able to make it your own, and make it somewhere that you are happy to celebrate life in. For our homeowner Thomas, personalizing his Habitat home meant putting in a little garden! May 19th is World Plant A Veggie Garden Day and Thomas's garden has become a source of joy as he ages peacefully in a safe and secure home. It is also a source of joy for his neighbors when he shares some of his harvest with them!

From digging the foundation for one house to painting finishing touches for another, volunteer groups from HTI have been a huge help to Habitat Anderson this month! They are a hardworking and detailed crew, but still make working on the job site a party!

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who show up, care deeply, and build others up—at home and in our community.

As we look back on last year’s Women Build, we are filled with gratitude for the women who gave their time, strength, and compassion to help make homeownership possible for a local family. More details and updates about this year’s Women Build will be shared soon so keep a look-out!

Working towards Habitat Anderson's mission of creating safe, affordable housing for all people in Anderson County is one way of showing God's love in action. We want to uplift this prayer for shelter today, which is adapted from a prayer used by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.

God, may you give us the ability to hear your call to serve and a willingness to be your hands and feet, Amen.
