The June Issue is lIve

This month's issue is centered around a simple but powerful idea: Belonging.
In my Editor's Letter, I reflect on the places, people, and experiences that help us find where we fit in. Whether it's family, friendships, faith, service, community organizations, or shared experiences, belonging is something we all seek—and something we can all help create for others. Inside this issue, you'll find stories that celebrate those connections.

Pride Month – Highlighting the importance of acceptance, community, and creating spaces where everyone feels valued and welcomed.

Juneteenth – Exploring the significance of this important holiday and its impact on the Upstate and South Carolina as we honor history, progress, and freedom.

Father's Day Gift & Adventure Guide – Featuring ideas from local readers and businesses including Gotta Run Anderson, Whitten's Nursery & Garden Center, Kitchen Emporium, WildFlowers Holistic Skin & Body, and more.

Tank Away Getaway: Kingston Resort at Myrtle Beach – Experience the beach through the eyes of my granddaughter Mylah as we share a special Mimi & Mymy adventure filled with laughter, wonder, and memories made one wave at a time.

Persons to Watch – This month we are proud to feature the recipients of the United Way of Anderson County African American Leadership Society Awards, individuals and organizations whose leadership and service continue to strengthen our community:
• Corey Davis – Emerging Leader Award
• David Blanding – Ambassador Leadership Award
• Amika Thomas – Community Leader Award
• Wyona Moss Ashley – Dr. Beatrice Thompson Legacy Award
• Pendleton Foundation for Black History & Culture – Community Organization Award
These remarkable honorees remind us that leadership isn't about titles—it's about service, impact, and lifting others along the way.

Thank you to all of our contributors, community partners, local businesses, and readers who continue to support local storytelling and help us celebrate the people who make this community extraordinary.

The United Way of Anderson County was happy to host the In-Person ALICE network meeting this week. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, and captures a hardworking group of people who still struggle to make ends meet. We discussed how we can better use resources within our network to support and uplift ALICE families.

We have a big announcement coming soon! Any guesses?
