For centuries, masks have been at the heart of Carnevale di Venezia, Venice's legendary festival of celebration, mystery, and transformation. During Carnevale, elaborate masks allowed people to step outside the boundaries of everyday life, creating a world where identities could be hidden and everyone could become someone—or something—different.

From the elegant Bauta to the mysterious Moretta, Venetian masks became works of art in their own right, crafted with intricate details, ornamentation, and imagination.

Walking the Dream - artist talk - Friday, October 9 at 7:00pm
This Friday join Shea Abramo, Nat Moris, and Teresa Bauer as we walk through the galleries together creating a dialogue and learning about the process behind the exhibit.

Breaking Bread: Dreaming Together - Tuesday, October 13 at 5:30pm
We invite you to join the Anderson Area Remembrance & Reconciliation Initiative (AAR&RI) for a community gathering centered around a simple but powerful idea: when we share a meal together, we create space to listen, learn, and imagine a better future for our community.
This evening will feature a conversation with artist Nat Morris about Amerikan Dream, his current exhibition with fellow artist Shea Abramo.
Building upon their earlier exhibition, Amerikan Gothic, this new body of work explores the complicated relationship between our shared history and the possibilities of our future. Through art, Morris and Abramo invite us to confront the challenges of racial and social injustice while imagining what might come next through hope, love, faith, repair, and reinvention.

When you think of the Venetian Renaissance, you might picture grand palaces, elaborate masks, and masterpieces filled with rich color. But Venice also helped shape the way we write and read today.

Around 1500, Venetian printer Aldus Manutius and type designer Francesco Griffo developed an innovative slanted type style inspired by the handwriting of Italian scholars. The new style allowed printers to fit more words onto a page—and eventually became what we know today as italic type.

From painting and printing to typography and design, the Venetian Renaissance was a time of incredible creativity and innovation.

During the Venetian Renaissance, artists became known for their extraordinary use of color, light, and atmosphere. Rather than relying solely on precise lines and drawing, Venetian masters used layers of rich color to create depth, emotion, movement, and a sense of life within their paintings.

That expressive approach became known as colorìto—and it is the inspiration behind this year's Anderson Arts Center's Annual Art Auction.
