Meet Howie: part Border Collie, part teddy bear, part amateur life coach.

Howie is a medium-sized scruffy gentleman with soulful eyes so deep you may accidentally tell him your secrets. He’ll listen carefully, nod silently, and then suggest a game of fetch as a solution to all of life’s problems.

Smart? Absolutely. This guy could probably learn your Wi-Fi password if given enough treats. Playful? You bet. He loves adventures, walks, toys, and showing off his impressive collection of zoomies. But unlike some canine athletes, Howie also believes in the importance of work-life balance. After some fun and exercise, he's perfectly happy to transform into a world-class cuddle buddy.

His loyalty is legendary. If Howie decides you're his person, congratulations—you've just gained a furry shadow, personal cheerleader, and professional snuggle consultant all in one.

Ideal home requirements:
✔ Humans to love
✔ A couch to share
✔ Treats (non-negotiable according to Howie)
✔ Appreciation for scruffy good looks

If you're looking for a dog who's equal parts brains, heart, and comedy, Howie is ready to make your life infinitely more entertaining—and a whole lot cozier.

So this last weekend we decided to try something a little out of the box so to speak... We took part in the first ever WAAGA (Welfare & Animal Advocacy Group of Alaska) clinic through PAWS of Nome. This clinic was able to provide necessary services to many animals throughout the area as well as drastically reduced cost spay/neuter services to the rescues that work with the rural communities. We were very happy to be invited to participate and be part of the very first of their clinics. Sometimes it takes out of the box thinking to make big things happen :)

We're back! No thanks to any tickets we put in with Facebook/Meta admin, but we've adjusted our expectations and are grateful to move forward!

We are so proud to announce our participation in WAAGA and great things to come addressing challenges for the non-profits serving our rural communities. It's a very hard and often thankless job - words of affirmation are always appreciated, but we can only rely on ourselves for action. Luckily for us, we have the Good People providing the community vote of confidence out there in the real world! Keep it going on social media, we hear it's all the rage 🤣

This was a hugely successful weekend of service from the Community Veterinary Clinic team - consisting of veterinary students, DVMs, multiple technicians and volunteers whose particular presence was a seamless fit with our village vet clinic vibe. With our volume of patients and expert coordination, we were not only able to accommodate every request that made their flight, but the team also got time to recharge and experience the beauty of our indigenous flora and fauna.

The weather was semi-cooperative, and even with travel delays/cancellations, we were able to offer spay/neuter spots to three other non-profit Rescue partners experiencing barriers to access for village intakes to continue on towards adoption. This may quite literally be the definition of "Spay it Forward!"

Don't forget, this clinic is donation only. We appreciate all the Membership contributions for Bering Sea Pet Benefits! Venmo

A huge shout-out to Ryan Air, INC. and Northern Air Cargo ❤️ They go above and beyond for the people and the animals of rural Alaska. Please support and recognize these dedicated companies that not only excel in their field but also share that level of support to benefit underserved communities!

Like, comment, share, donate, and/or volunteer - every, little bit helps!

Up for adoption this weekend. Be sure to get your applications in. These boys are fiesty and active fluffballs. Expected to be around 25 to 30lbs but in true village fashion we really can't guarantee an adult size.

🐾 Zazu: King of Snacks🐾

This handsome 5-year-old Husky sports a pair of eyebrows that should have their own Instagram account and a piercing stare that can convince you to hand over snacks from across the room.

Zazu is good with dogs, kids, and adults. He's crate trained, leash trained, rides beautifully in the car, and has excellent house manners. He's affectionate without being clingy, intelligent without being complicated, and eager to please…especially when treats are involved.

And speaking of treats... His greatest weakness? Pup cups.

Zazu loves pup cups with the passion of a thousand suns. If you pull into the drive-thru and the line is moving slowly, he will make sure everyone knows this delay is completely unacceptable. In his opinion, service should be immediate when whipped cream is involved.

At home, Zazu is a surprisingly laid-back guy who is perfectly content to relax after a nice walk and spend the rest of the day lounging near his people.

If you're looking for a dog that's handsome, funny, well-mannered, and ready to be your loyal sidekick, Zazu may just be your perfect match.

Apply today and come meet the dog whose eyebrows are almost as impressive as his personality.
