We're proud to partner with the UAA School of Education on Project SOLSTICE. 🎉
UAA was awarded $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Education's FIPSE Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development program. ASCF is a partner on this work.
Right now, the Aullaaġvik Tribal Educator Apprenticeship Program has 23 apprentices. They live and work in their home communities. They come from:
• North Slope Borough School District
• Northwest Arctic Borough School District
• Lower Yukon School District
• Kuspuk School District
• Yupiit School District
• Hooper Bay Charter School
• Knik Charter and Benteh STEAM Learning Academy
• Tulen Charter School / Kenaitze Tribe
• Alutiingcut Child Care Center
These new funds will give our apprentices academic tutoring for their university classes. They will also help apprentices prepare for the PRAXIS exams.
Our apprentices are already teaching in their communities. This support helps them finish and stay.

Attention Atqasuk, Point Lay, Wainwright, and Utqiagvik: our Digital Literacy Manager Richie Cahoon will be visiting your community to meet with the leadership at the cities, tribes and churches as a resource to evaluate your digital infrastructure, connectivity, hardware, software and level of skills of key staff. This program was designed to help us gain a better understanding of where our communities are at today with their digital literacy so that we can build and develop stronger systems that ultimately benefit our communities. ASCF is working to build capacity with the “boots on the ground” leadership across the region.

Education doesn’t only happen in a classroom. Some of our most important lessons are passed from Elder to youth—learning who we are, where we come from, and carrying that knowledge forward.

ASCF would like to say a big thank you to the Nudlaghi Leadership Institute (NLI) for including Point Hope on your list of stops in rural Alaska. Every year NLI works to bring light the current realities of rural Alaska to national grant making organizations, and what better way than to bring the funders into the villages who are so far removed from the eyes and ears of prestigious “lower 48” grant making foundations.

The trip was coordinated and planned by NLI, hosted by the leaders of Point Hope, and generously supported by a group of sponsors including ASCF, Arctic Slope Regional Corporation, the North Slope Borough, the City of Point Hope, and Native Village of Point Hope. Aarigaa, quyanaqpak Tikiġaq!

ASCF would like to say a special thanks to the community of Point Hope for hosting the Nudlaghi Leadership Institute 2026 Grant-makers tour. This tour was created to bring attention to the needs of rural Alaska, in hopes of fostering connection and building relationships with leaders of foundations from across the United States.

We were greeted by community leaders of the Native Village of Point Hope, City of Point Hope and Tikiġaq Corporation to experience a special tour of the community, participate in a community needs luncheon, which culminated with a dance performance by Tikiġaq Traditional Dancers. The school children of Point Hope greeted us and made us feel like local celebrities.

ASCF helped sponsor the flight to Point Hope, along with ASRC, North Slope Borough, the City of Point Hope, Native Village of Point Hope which was orchestrated by the Nudlaghi Leadership Institute.

Thank you Tikiġaq for welcoming this special tour with open arms!
