🏀 Congratulations to Butch Lincoln! 🏀

Arctic Slope Community Foundation proudly celebrates Butch Lincoln of Kotzebue on his induction into the UAA Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

As the first Alaska Native athlete to earn a basketball scholarship at UAA, Butch inspired generations of young people across Alaska to dream bigger and work harder. His leadership on the court, dedication in the classroom, and commitment to serving Alaska Native communities continue to leave a lasting impact.

Thank you, Butch, for showing our youth what is possible through hard work, humility, and perseverance. Your legacy reaches far beyond basketball.

🎉 Please join us in congratulating Butch Lincoln on this well-deserved honor!

🏀 Our Own Officials 🏀

Today we met with Program Facilitator Jason McCourt, Daaqsi Masraun Hadley, Payuk Pimental, and Ryder Klatka at the Alaska Airlines Center for the 2026 All-Alaska Basketball Officials Camp at UAA. We provided our Utqiaġvik Offcials an ASCF swag to help uplift them as they learn new skills, build confidence, and work toward becoming stronger basketball officials.

At ASCF, we believe in supporting educational opportunities like this and investing in our local people. The future of Alaska basketball is built on knowing the rules, having the confidence in officiating, and strengthening the integrity of the game itself.

Good luck at camp—we’re proud of you!

*ATTENTION! Date change to Monday, June 8th!*

Did you grow up hearing stories of an ancestor that was Portuguese? Many with Portuguese ancestry rooted in the Yankee whaling days actually have traces back to the Azores or Cape Verde Islands.

Many Portuguese families helped build Alaska through whaling, hard work, and faith. Their legacy is still alive today.

A representative from the Government of the Azores is visiting Alaska to hear your stories.

Join us June 8th in Anchorage or online via Zoom. We invite descendants and friends to gather, share stories, reconnect with their heritage, and help shape a vision for an Azores House in Alaska.

Bring your stories. Bring your photos. Bring your family history. Every family has a story. Every story matters.

Let’s make sure these stories are never lost.

Tag someone with Portuguese heritage. 🇵🇹

This Memorial Day, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of all who gave their lives in service to our nation.

American Indians and Alaska Natives have served in the U.S. Armed Forces at one of the highest rates per capita of any population group in the nation. Today, we remember their sacrifice and honor all who served. 🇺🇸

This National Apprenticeship Week, Arctic Slope Community Foundation proudly celebrates 18 Tribal Educator Apprentices who are doing something remarkable: building their careers, strengthening their schools, and investing in the long-term future of their communities — without ever having to leave home. In small and rural communities across Alaska, teacher shortages are not just an education issue — they are a workforce crisis and a community development challenge. When schools cannot retain qualified teachers, the effects ripple across every aspect of community life. The Aullaaġvik Tribal Educator Apprenticeship (TEA) Program is a direct response to that reality.

When we grow teachers from within our own communities, we are not just filling classroom vacancies — we are building a skilled, stable, and culturally grounded local workforce that strengthens the entire community for generations to come.

As a U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship, the Aullaaġvik TEA Program pairs on-the-job learning with structured academic preparation — creating a pathway to professional licensure that works for rural Alaskans, on their terms, in their communities. This is workforce development that meets people where they are.

Our 18 apprentices are growing the educator workforce right now across:

North Slope Borough School District
Northwest Arctic Borough School District
Knik Charter School and Benteh STEAM Academy
Lower Yukon School District
Hooper Bay Charter School
Alutiingcut Child Care

Each of these apprentices represents a community that chose to invest in itself. They are educators, neighbors, parents, and knowledge keepers — and they are proving that sustainable rural community development starts with growing leadership from within.

We are deeply proud of every one of them. Their commitment to their students, their schools, and their communities is the foundation on which a stronger Alaska is built. To our apprentices: we see you. We are proud of you. Keep going.
