Looking back a decade to when the Alaska Dental Society led its first Mission of Mercy event, reaching nearly 2,000 individuals in need of dental care, providing services valued at $1 million. This impactful endeavor was made possible by the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers.

Fast forward to today, and the Alaska Dental Society continues its commitment to community welfare. We're proud to announce a $26,000 donation from our charitable activities fund to support Anchorage Project Access, Dental Lifeline Network, and the University of Alaska Foundation. Together, we're making a tangible difference in people's lives.

Exciting Update from the 2024 ADA Dentist and Student Lobby Day in Washington D.C.!

Dr. Heather Willis, along with Executive Director Tracey Harmon, represented the Alaska Dental Society and advocated for Dental Workforce and student loan/postgraduate educational debt issues. We had productive meetings with Senator Murkowski, Sullivan, and Representative Peltola’s staff, highlighting the crucial needs of our profession.

But it wasn't all work and no play! We joined ADA President-elect Brett Kesler for a sunrise run, enjoyed a breathtaking view of the solar eclipse during breaks, and networked at various social events.

Last week, the Alaska Dental Society embarked on a meaningful journey to Juneau, where we engaged in pivotal discussions with legislators. Our focus was on addressing critical advocacy priorities, particularly tackling workforce shortages and initiating conversations about our state's potential participation in the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact.

These discussions were instrumental in laying the groundwork for solutions to enhance dental care accessibility and quality across Alaska. By collaborating with policymakers, we're working to build a stronger foundation for the dental profession and better serve the oral health needs of our communities.
