Downtown Soup Kitchen Hope Center Hope Restored • Hearts Renewed • Lives Transformed For over 30 years, we have served the Anchorage community as a soup kitchen and shower house.

After years of meeting the basic needs of homeless and struggling individuals, we decided to offer them an opportunity to break out of the cycle of homelessness through vocational training and job placement. On Friday 8/7/2026, Shawn Drussell, the beloved son of Vickie Drussell, DHC's Shelter Director, passed into the arms of Jesus…. The following is his obituary. His memorial service will be held at Downtown Hope Center at 2 pm on August 13, 2026.

Quick witted and funny, he was always ready to make you laugh that was his greatest gift, he loved people and animals of all kinds and to him all life had a purpose.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Jessica and survived by his mother Vickie, life- partner Tara, his sister Deanna and brother-in-law Chris from Tampa Florida, brothers David and Steven, his children Brandon and Serenity and his beloved dog Aurora all from Anchorage AK. He has many Aunts,uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins most are in LasVegas, NV and Tampa,Florida.
