NEW! The age of consent in Alaska is now 18, and we have created this flowchart to help everyone understand what that means.

This visual guide breaks down when consent can legally be given and reminds us that age is only one part of true consent. Feel free to share!

Our ability to serve over 20,000 people from the food pantry at the Hope Center each month is only expanded every time we receive a gift like the one from HATCH.

Everything you do to support DCU and the Hope Center materially benefits the health of our community, and enriches the lives of your actual neighbors. And thank God none of us do this work alone!

(This summer, HATCH — with charitable support from Lilly as part of its 150th-anniversary community initiative — is delivering commercial-grade refrigeration systems to food pantries in 15 cities. More cold storage means more protein-rich food, reaching more families.)

Today, we remember the Great Alaska Good Friday Earthquake of March 27, 1964.

We honor the lives lost, the communities forever changed, and the strength of the people who endured the 9.2-magnitude earthquake — one of the most powerful ever recorded. It also triggered a tsunami that brought immense destruction and loss to our region.

The resilience shown in the aftermath, especially in our Alutiiq communities, continues to inspire us today.

Free Positive Indigenous Parenting Class Starts April 6th, Register Now!

Traditional child-rearing practices are some of the most powerful tools we have for building strong, healthy families. The next round of Positive Indigenous Parenting training is here, and will be available through Zoom.

This free eight-week virtual curriculum, developed by the National Indian Child Welfare Association, helps native families reconnect with cultural teachings while navigating the realities of modern parenting. Participants build stronger family bonds, preserve traditions and find new ways to show up for the children in their lives.

Classes meet Mondays beginning April 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. Please share this opportunity with staff, caregivers, clients and anyone who might benefit.
