Thank you to everyone who joined us for "Is the Rent Too Damn High?" and a special thank you to Assembly Members Erin Baldwin Day and George Martinez for a candid, thoughtful conversation about housing in Anchorage.

Over lunch, we covered:

- Where the Assembly's Housing Action Plan stands today
- How rising rent and mortgage costs are shaping whether young professionals can put down roots here
- The "Missing Middle" initiative and how it could open up more housing options across our neighborhoods

The big takeaway: the decisions being made right now will shape whether Anchorage remains a place where our generation can afford to live, work, and build a future. And too often, we're not in the room when those decisions happen.

Here's how to change that:

- Show up. The Assembly meets on Tuesdays, and residents are welcome to attend and testify.
- Mark your calendar for October 7. The next meeting focuses specifically on the housing initiative.
- Make your voice heard. Young professionals are among the least represented voices in local decision-making. Attend, testify, or email your Assembly members. Showing up counts.

This month we swapped our normal monthly meeting for an afternoon in the park. In collaboration with Anchorage Park Foundation, YPG planted willow and spruce trees while cleaning up Chanshtnu Muldoon Park.

1️⃣ Last Thursdays: Summer luncheons will now happen on the last Thursday of the month. Go enjoy those sunny weekends early! 🚗⛺
2️⃣ Noon Starts: We’re moving the start time to exactly 12:00 PM. No awkward early exits from work required.
3️⃣ June Location: We’ve pushed Deck 85 to July because this month, we are hitting the Spenard Food Trucks! 🍔🍕🍦

Lauren Hines
Owner, Boom Coffee

At just a few months into managing Boom Coffee, Lauren made a bold move—she bought the business.

Today, she leads a 24/7 operation with 37 employees and has grown Boom Coffee into a staple of the Anchorage community.

From launching a custom mobile app to constantly evolving the menu, Lauren keeps the brand fresh while building a culture where her team feels supported, valued, and empowered.

Outside the business, she’s coaching high school flag football, supporting local teams, and collaborating with other Anchorage businesses to strengthen the community.
