Yesterday was Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a time to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

Alaska Junior Theater acknowledges that we live and work on the traditional homelands of the Dena’ina people, who have cared for this land since time immemorial. We honor the Dena’ina people, their enduring cultural traditions and their continued presence in our community.

We believe Indigenous peoples should be celebrated not just on one day, but every day. Their stories, knowledge, traditions and contributions are an essential part of Alaska’s past, present and future, and deserve our recognition, respect and appreciation throughout the year.

We are grateful to be part of this community and honor the Indigenous peoples whose stories, knowledge and traditions continue to shape Alaska today. 💛

We’re heading back to school! 🎭📚✨

Alaska Junior Theater is so excited to bring in-school presentations to the students at O'Malley Elementary School and Sand Lake Elementary!

We love getting the chance to bring the magic of the performing arts directly to teachers right in their own schools. These presentations are a fun way to connect with our community leaders and give them a face (or two) to the name.

We can’t wait to see all those smiling faces and share some theater magic with our newest audiences! 💜🎶

Thank you, O’Malley and Sand Lake, for welcoming Alaska Junior Theater into your schools! We’ll see you soon! 👋✨

Head's up!

Did you know October 6 is Mad Hatter Day? The unofficial celebration began in 1986 when a group of computer technicians in Boulder, Colorado decided to dedicate a day to a little Wonderland-inspired silliness. The date comes from the famous “10/6” card tucked into the Hatter’s hat in Sir John Tenniel’s original illustrations of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In Victorian England, 10/6 meant the hat cost "10 shillings and sixpence," but in the American date format, 10/6 just happens to be October 6! 🎩✨

And this year, Mad Hatter Day feels especially appropriate because Alaska Junior Theater is bringing Meet the Hatter to Anchorage! ✨

In Meet the Hatter, Joss Arnott Dance puts a fresh, magical spin on the Hatter, combining dance, storytelling, visuals and an original score in a cinematic journey into Wonderland.

So, how are YOU planning to celebrate Mad Hatter Day? 🎩

Wear your silliest hat, have a Wonderland tea party, get a little topsy-turvy and send us your pictures! 📸 We want to see your best Mad Hatter looks and your Wonderland-worthy celebrations.

Tag Alaska Junior Theater or send us your photos so we can share them!
