Two reminders: The next open Board meeting will be held on Monday, October 5th, at 6:00 p.m. at Joy Lutheran Church. Bring your questions and suggestions and get updates from the Board.

Second, election day is a little over a month away, on Nov. 3rd. Signs for issues and candidates can be displayed as of Saturday, Oct. 3rd. Signs must be no larger than 2'x2' and only one sign per issue/candidate is permitted. If you don't know your polling place or have questions about your registration, check out myvoterportal.alaska.gov.

Mother Nature is reminding us that winter is coming! Stay safe, remember to drive slowly and make cars and homes ready.

Let the decorating begin! Tomorrow is October 1st, so it's time to get your Halloween decorations out. You might also consider taking a look at getting out holiday lights, since it looks like colder weather is on the way and it's a special form of torture to put up lights with freezing hands.

Somehow our Facebook overlords are not smiling on me today! One more try: on this windy Tuesday, remember to take in your trash cans and sweep the yard for stuff adrift - regularly scheduled inspection is tomorrow, Wed., 9/16. Here comes fall!

Notes from the Operations Manager
I would like to take a few minutes to discuss a four letter word that has re-entered our daily conversations… SNOW

As the seasons pass, we have come back to the beginning of fall and awakened to a heavy blanket of termination dust on the peaks that surround the neighborhood. The first noticeable fall activity will be trimming the tree limbs overhanging the streets and sidewalks that are plowed by the association. This is to prevent damage to the snow removal equipment. The work will be done by the Operations Manager and our tree removal service, starting in the next week or two.

We will have our asphalt contractor back to make some additional repairs to streets before the snow falls. We are waiting for a schedule for the work, but it will involve cutting out sections of pavement. This will create hazards during the day as the crews work through 28 locations. We may not get more than a day’s warning, so be on the lookout for workers and cones.

Finally, once the leaves have fallen, we will turn our attention to catch basins to make sure they are clear of leaves and debris and mark them in preparation for breakup next spring. We will continue to mark them with the green fiberglass stakes, so we ask that you use other colors to mark your road and driveway edges to reduce confusion.

Alert to Eaglewood residents - our trails and major roads will be impacted today by a large group (up to 200) runners participating in the Fireweed 500 half marathon. Thanks to a resident who shared the route map, we noticed that runners will be using the trails between N. and S. Montague, and between Andreanof and Sarichef, and will be crossing a couple of streets. This was a surprise, hence the late notice.

Race officials have placed cones and signs, and are assuring us that disruption will be minimal. That said, we will need to stay away from those trail areas for safety, and watch for runners. The race starts at 10 at the Nature Center, and will be over by 4. Stay safe, everyone!
