Thanks to volunteer gardeners Ruth and Doug, the main entrance to Eaglewood is bursting with color! Their next project will be to clean up and replant the rock garden at the N. Montague entrance. If you see them out working, please stop and thank them for helping keep Eaglewood beautiful.

Welcome to summer, Eaglewood friends! We started off with a damp Meet and Greet on 5/31, but it looks like June is giving us the beautiful summer weather we deserve after last winter. On June 8th, we had a well-attended annual meeting, saying "Goodbye and Thanks" to Laura Friesen and Steve Cook who left the Board and "Hello and Welcome" to our two new Board members, Mark DeVries and Louis Mundinger. We also heard a presentation by Anchorage Fire Department about wildfire prevention. More on this exciting program in our July newsletter, so watch your inbox. MOOSE ARE DANGEROUS!

Every year at this time, we graciously yield our greenbelt trail system to the moose mothers.

We're all eager to get outside and enjoy our far too short spring and summer before another winter closes in — and it's tempting to ignore the warnings and head out onto the trails anyway.

Please don't.

For your safety and the safety of the moose and their newborns, stay on the sidewalks during this critical period. The calves' only defense is their mothers' ferocity, and those mothers are primed for it. Even on the sidewalks, stay alert.

An attack can happen faster than you can react. You emerge from a tunnel, round a bend, pass a wall of dense brush — and suddenly an enraged moose is bearing down on you at full charge. Escape is nearly impossible.

It has happened in Eaglewood. It will happen again.

Calling 911 is the appropriate response to a moose attack with injuries.
