Alert to Eaglewood residents - our trails and major roads will be impacted today by a large group (up to 200) runners participating in the Fireweed 500 half marathon. Thanks to a resident who shared the route map, we noticed that runners will be using the trails between N. and S. Montague, and between Andreanof and Sarichef, and will be crossing a couple of streets. This was a surprise, hence the late notice.

Race officials have placed cones and signs, and are assuring us that disruption will be minimal. That said, we will need to stay away from those trail areas for safety, and watch for runners. The race starts at 10 at the Nature Center, and will be over by 4. Stay safe, everyone!

This Tuesday has a lot happening! First, remember to take in your trash cans today, since the regular inspection is tomorrow, Wednesday, 8/19/26. Second, VOTE! It's your right and privilege. Third, school starts this week, so our kids will be walking, biking and waiting for buses. Slow down, watch for the unpredictable - hey, they're excited (and fast). We had a terrible tragedy in Eagle River last week with a teen bicyclist hit. Kids' need for speed and fun with friends sometimes takes their attention away. Be safe, everyone.

Trail Closure!

The section of trail between Sarichef Loop and Middleton Loop extending north from Eaglewood Loop to the junction behind Puffin Cir is temporarily closed due to a tree that is in the process of falling down.

There are two stems growing out of the root ball, one is hung up in the adjacent trees and hanging over the trail, the other is still upright but leaning out of the green belt and towards a house.

The safest course will require the services of our tree service company to remove without damaging the adjoining properties.

Regrettably they are not available until Monday so until the tree has been removed we appreciate your cooperation and respecting the closure and enjoying your walks on one of the many other trails in Eaglewood.

Thanks

Paul

A friendly reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday, 8/5/26, is a regularly scheduled day for the property management company inspection. So remember to take those trash cans in and check around your property for out of place items. And may the sun shine on our Wednesday!

We love our good boys and girls, but sometimes they get excited when out on a walk with their humans. There have been several incidents recently where unleashed dogs have charged at, or even bitten, neighbors using our trails and sidewalks. According to Anchorage municipal ordinance, all dogs need to be under direct control in any public place, using a leash or e-collar (their person still needs to have a leash in hand). Sometimes dogs get excited by other animals or people, and may react forcefully in aggression or over-exuberance. Either way, attacking or lunging is not acceptable, but if the dog is leashed, the behavior is managed.
Muni law actually requires reporting of all bites and incidents of aggressive behavior. Anyone accosted by out-of-control dogs can call 311, or Animal Control Dispatch at 907-343-8119. With our kiddos walking to school in just a month, it's a good time to be more careful about unleashed pets.

If my trash can could talk, it might say, "Take me in," after pickup. This is a heads up that tomorrow, Wednesday 7/8, is a regularly scheduled inspection. By far the most common violation is when trash bins are left out the day after pickup. That's not Eaglewood being fussy, it's the Muni rule that cans need to be stowed before 9:00 p.m. on collection day. Why, you ask? Especially in the summer, bears are cruising the neighborhoods looking for tasty snacks in trash cans. You might also check around the old homestead and put away yard maintenance equipment, coolers, black bags, etc. It's easier to avoid being cited than to deal with a violation. Happy summer, folks!

Walking on an Eaglewood path, you see some traffic cones. "What's going on? I don't see anything." When cones, rebar, snow fences or other warning indicators are placed, it's for a reason. Maybe there's a dangerous icy area ahead, maybe new hydroseeding or subsurface work. Our Ops Manager works hard to let us know when we need to pay attention, for our safety and for our community. So, please don't move the cones or other warning indicators, and stay safe!

'Tis the season - election season, that it. Political hopefuls and their teams are around our neighborhood asking for your support. If you are inclined to promote your preferences with a yard sign, they are allowed within 30 days of the election date. In our area, primary day is August 18th, and the general election is November 3rd. We can be respectful of neighbors' support while letting folks know who we endorse. Remember to vote!
