Overdose can happen with prescription opioids, illicit opioids, or when opioids are mixed with alcohol or other drugs. Knowing the risks and taking medications only as prescribed can help prevent overdose. Learn more about overdose prevention: samhsa.gov/opioids

Join us in honoring International Overdose Awareness Day on Monday, August 31. 💜

The Alaska Department of Health’s Project HOPE, Volunteers of America, the Anchorage Health Department, and the Alaska Tribal Health Consortium are coming together to raise awareness, build lifesaving naloxone kits for statewide distribution, and strengthen support for people in recovery and reentry.

From 12:00–3:00 p.m., I’ll be facilitating a Reentry Simulation—an interactive experience that explores the real-life barriers people face when returning to the community and how harm reduction, recovery supports, housing, employment, and other resources can make successful reentry possible.

There are several ways to get involved:

Volunteer for the Reentry Simulation

Participate in the simulation experience

Help build naloxone kits for distribution across Alaska

Or join us for both activities!

Every naloxone kit built, every conversation started, and every person who better understands reentry and recovery brings us closer to preventing future overdose deaths.

Come take action with us. Together, we can save lives, reduce stigma, and build stronger pathways to recovery and successful reentry. 💜
