We hope you join us this month at one of our meetings, where all are welcome. If you’re new to The Alliance or considering joining, the all-member meeting is a great place to learn more about our network and what we do. Our workgroups are where collaborative work happens, and these meetings are also open to everyone! If you’re curious about what happens in these meetings, below is a snapshot of each workgroup's focus this year.
Evaluation & Learning Workgroup: We’re setting learning topics for the year, shaping the evaluation plan to pair with our new strategic plan, and building an Alliance-wide evaluation that includes hearing directly from former and lower-participating members about their experiences. If you have thoughts on what we should be learning together this year, this is your group.
Communications & Social Norms Workgroup: We’re focusing on supporting both internal and external communications by developing a strategic communications plan, creating tools such as an elevator speech and refreshed fliers, and sharing resources and information with smaller communities across Alaska.
Policy Workgroup: We’re digging into big questions, including how to track legislative seat changes ahead of the election, how to prepare for session with practical trainings on tracking bills and meeting with representatives, and how to navigate speaking about alcohol policy issues in a way that is educational and within legal bounds. We are also talking through the Aurora Project's role in developing a statewide policy plan, the push for an alcohol excise tax, and opportunities such as the vacant public safety seat on the ABC board.
Strategic Design Workgroup: We’re continuing to focus on workgroup collaborations and outreach on the alcohol excise tax and the Aurora Project. We’re discussing how we can better support and hear from members who aren't as active in the Alliance right now. If you care about prevention strategy and want a hand in shaping how The Alliance advances this work, we would love to have you.
Data & Learning Workgroup: This year, we are planning three learning sessions on topics such as YRBS, the newly relaunched BRFSS, and underused sources like the Maternal and Child Death Review. We are also building a shared list of Alaska data sources and exploring one-on-one data support for members.
For all workgroups, you do not need expertise or experience in these areas to attend a meeting or be a member! One of The Alliance’s goals is to build capacity, and we do this through resource and information sharing in our workgroup meetings, and this sharing goes both ways! We value all perspectives and would love to have you.
