We're so excited to reconvene with Alliance members in August! We hope the summer brought some rest, good company, and a little breathing room before we dive back in.

August marks the start of a new fiscal year for The Alliance, and we're coming back with a lot to look forward to. This year is shaping up to be a meaningful one, with three major areas of focus anchoring our collective work: strategic planning, excise tax initiative, and the AURORA Project.

We hope you're able to join us at one of our workgroup or All-Alliance meetings this month! Please reach out to Alliance Coordinator Tesia Bobrycki for more information or to learn how you can get involved: [email protected]

The Alliance will be taking a break from all meetings in July! We hope you all have a fun, relaxing, and restorative month.

As we close out the fiscal year, we want to express our gratitude for the continued support, passion, and energy you bring to this work. We spent time in June meetings sharing stories of success, as well as hopes and goals for the next year. Common themes among these discussions were the value of collaboration between workgroups, in-person and lunch-and-learn meetings, and educational presentations from our workgroup leads. Our hearts are full as we look forward to continuing the partnerships and momentum built this past year - thank you all!

Today's Policy Workgroup conversation focused on SB 196 and the broader legislative landscape in which it sits. Members discussed how differences between the House and Senate versions can complicate the path forward, requiring additional momentum and support to move through the remaining steps this session. We also talked through what happens if the bill does not pass this year, including the option for it to be reintroduced in the next legislative session.

A key part of the discussion centered on understanding the distinctions between lobbying, advocacy, and education, and how organizational roles and funding can shape what individuals and partners are able to do. The group also reviewed the current policy framework and spreadsheet together to support shared understanding and consistency in our approach.

If you are interested in helping shape how we engage in policy conversations like SB 196 or want to better understand how this work happens in practice, we welcome you to join the Policy Workgroup!
