Alaska Trails Alaska Trails is a nonprofit working to expand and enhance Alaska's trail networks. Communities that get outside and use trails are healthier and happier.

We aim to be the statewide leader in trail advocacy, stewardship, and education. Alaska Trails is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization incorporated in 2003. Alaska Trails’ mission is to enhance the Alaska trail experience by supporting sustainable, world-renowned trails through advocacy, education and technical assistance. 🌲 Trail work makes a difference! 🌲

Last Saturday, 9 of our dedicated black hat Alaska Trail Stewards volunteers headed out on the Little O’Malley Trail to give it some much-needed TLC. Together, they brushed 0.3 miles of trail and completed about 100 feet of tread and drainage work—helping keep the trail clear, safe, and enjoyable for everyone who uses it.

Earlier this month, 14 volunteers on a tour with Revel Treks & Tours helped improve the Gold Cord Lake Trail in Hatcher Pass State Park! These hardworking volunteers safely moved heavy rocks to build the beginning of a turnpike to lift the trail above the water table to keep hikers out of the mud and prevent trail widening.

On Sunday, eight Alaska Trail Stewards volunteers attended a gas-powered brusher training. They brushed the Golden Grass Trail in Chugach State Park in the process, which was completely overgrown. Another great trail work day in Whittier is in the books! Twelve volunteers came out on Saturday for a rare sunny day to build new trail off the Horsetail Falls Connector Trail to this beautiful waterfall. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to building and improving trails!

Last weekend, twelve hardworking volunteers brushed all three miles of the Moose Ridge Loop Trail in Far North Bicentennial Park! Last year, an Alaska Trails pro crew, Youth Employment in Parks, and volunteers constructed a reroute, built a bridge and boardwalk, hardened trail tread, and removed hazard roots and trees. We are thrilled to be able to return to trails we have improved the following year to ensure they are in tip-top shape!

This work was made possible by a generous sponsorship from TOTE Maritime and an Anchorage Park Foundation Challenge Grant.

The Gull Rock Trail in Chugach National Forest received much-needed maintenance last week thanks to a grant from Athletic Brewing Company !

An Alaska Trails Pro Crew cleared overgrown brush from the trail corridor, 1.55 miles in total! Check out the before-and-after pictures to see just how dense it was.

Thanks to nine hardworking volunteers, the Ermine Hill Trail in Denali State Park got an upgrade! They brushed 1.2 miles of trail and built two 12 foot bridges over the course of two days, making this trail safer and more enjoyable.

We are grateful to Fuse & Traverse for sponsoring this event and for being a long-time supporter of our Alaska Trail Stewards program. We'd also like to thank Alaska Nature Guides for providing a cookout for our volunteers!
