We hope you're enjoying the summer season! As you're spending time outdoors and on the water, don't forget about APICDA's photo contest. Whether it's community events, commercial or subsistence harvesting, or beautiful scenics, we're looking for images that showcase life in APICDA's member communities. You don't need to wait until the September 30 deadline to submit your photos. We encourage you to send them in as you take them throughout the summer! For all the details, please visit: https://www.apicda.com/photo-contest/ [email protected].

It's time to start saving your receipts! Last year, APICDA's Gear Reimbursement Grant reimbursed community members over $150,000 for eligible purchases. If you've purchased gear, harvesting supplies, or fuel this season, be sure to save your receipts. 🪝⛽️🛟🫙🫐

And remember, you don't need to wait until the December 1 deadline to apply. Submit receipts throughout the summer and be reimbursed as you go. Please check eligibility and apply online at: https://www.apicda.com/gear-grant-2/.

It was great to spend time with two Emil Berikoff Sr. Memorial Scholarship alumni this morning! Karen Ravenscroft, Principal and Teacher at the Akutan School, and Eldred Paradeza, who recently completed his marketing degree.

With APICDA's support, Karen has been able to pursue both her undergraduate teaching degree and now her master's degree while remaining in her home community of Akutan.

Karen was interviewed by Eldred, an APICDA Communications Trainee from Unalaska, as part of a project featuring community members and the role APICDA programs have played in helping them reach their goals. It was wonderful to hear Karen's perspective on her educational journey and the path that led her to the classroom in Akutan.

Thinking about college or graduate school? Don't miss the July 1 deadline for the 2026–2027 Emil Berikoff Sr. Memorial Scholarship Program! https://www.apicda.com/scholarships/

Life vests for the kiddos are headed out this week to our CDQ communities. We’re excited to get these distributed before summer activities get fully underway.

A big thank you to our Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) for requesting the life vests, gathering sizes, and helping distribute them. We would also like to give a shout-out to Sean Hislop, APICDA’s Safety Manager, for his guidance in researching and selecting the best options, and to LFS Marine for their support.

An unforgettable day in False Pass! Being there to celebrate the opening of the new Harbor House and honoring Tom Hoblet was the perfect way to close out our trip! We can't wait to return and catch up with the communities we missed on this visit!

It was wonderful being in Akutan yesterday for a community meeting and a tour of the new tsunami shelter/community center that APICDA supported through our Community Development Grant Program (CDGP). We appreciated the chance to visit with community members, get updates on local priorities, and have a candid discussion about fisheries issues affecting the region.

Today, we’re hoping to make it to Nelson Lagoon, weather permitting!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to meet with us yesterday in Atka! It was great to see old friends and tour some of APICDA’s grant-funded projects. Most importantly, it was very helpful for our team to hear your questions and concerns about fisheries, local priorities, and ongoing community projects.

Now it’s on to Akutan! While we wish we had enough time to visit all of our communities on every trip, we’re grateful for every opportunity to spend time together in person across the region.
