May 2026 was colder than normal across most of Southern Alaska, including Kodiak Island and the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands. Precipitation was well above normal across coastal Southcentral Alaska, including Anchorage, as well as Kodiak Island. Elsewhere, precipitation amounts were either slightly above or slightly below monthly averages. For Anchorage, May 2026 was the 16th coldest and the 4th wettest on record. In a tale of two seasons, Anchorage saw its wettest first half of May on record (1.51” of precipitation from May 1 to May 15) and its 20th driest second half of May (0.10” of precipitation from May 16 to May 31). The monthly low temperature of 32 degrees at Anchorage Int’l on May 24th broke the record for the latest freeze, with the previous record set on May 22nd, 1964.

Let's bring our community together to create a competitive application for the FY26 HUD Continuum of Care Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).

This year’s NOFO looks very different than past ones. Priorities are treatment, self-sufficiency and public safety. Nationwide, one-third of the grant funds will go to new project types that have not been previously funded: transitional housing and supportive services only projects such as street outreach, clinics or childcare.

Join us for a communitywide meeting of those interested in these grants for local projects that can change lives. First-time applicants encouraged!
