What does a path to self-sufficiency look like?

At Streets to Success, adults with histories of homelessness, addiction, and criminal justice involvement are supported by staff and mentors with lived experience, people who understand the road because they’ve walked it themselves.

Through recovery support, vocational training, and community partnerships, Bean’s Cafe helps create lasting personal and professional success rooted in dignity and respect.

❄️ Winter is coming to Anchorage. For many of us, that means snow days, cozy blankets, and a warm place to come home to.

But for someone experiencing homelessness, winter can mean something very different.

We're asking our community to help us in this urgent situation with the winter essentials our guests need most:

-New men’s underwear
-Men’s winter coats, critically sizes large and extra-large
-Sweatpants and sweatshirts, critically larger sizes
-Winter boots
-New socks
-Hats and gloves
-Thermals
-Hand/foot warmers
-New, unopened, travel size hygiene products (no alcohol)

You can help.

Look in your closet. Pick up an extra pack of socks. Add a few hygiene items to your next shopping trip. Ask your workplace, church, school, club, or community group to hold a winter donation drive.

Every item matters. Every act of generosity matters. And together, we can help make sure our neighbors are a little warmer, a little safer, and a little more cared for this winter.

Let's show Anchorage what it means to take care of our community.

At Bean’s Cafe, this day is a chance to name what homelessness looks like here in Southcentral Alaska, and to keep showing up with meals, shelter, and pathways to self-sufficiency for neighbors who need them.

What does hope look like in Anchorage?

For us, it looks like neighbors showing up, sharing a meal, donating a hand-crafted bowl, and making space for each other. For more than 25 years, the Empty Bowl Project has brought over 1,400 Alaskans together each year, a reminder of the empty bowls in our community and the hope that grows when people come together.

❄️ Winter is coming to Anchorage. For many of us, that means snow days, cozy blankets, and a warm place to come home to.

But for someone experiencing homelessness, winter can mean something very different.

It can mean trying to stay warm through the night.
It can mean wet socks and cold hands.
It can mean carrying everything you own while navigating freezing temperatures.
It can mean wondering where you'll find warmth tomorrow.

For nearly 50 years, Bean’s Café has been a place where hope has an address—welcoming neighbors who have experienced homelessness, poverty, trauma, addiction, incarceration, and loss with dignity, practical support, and belonging.

We're asking our community to help us in this urgent situation with the winter essentials our guests need most:

-New men’s underwear
-Men’s winter coats, critically sizes large and extra-large
-Sweatpants and sweatshirts, critically larger sizes
-Winter boots
-New socks
-Hats and gloves
-Thermals
-Hand/foot warmers
-New, unopened, travel size hygiene products (no alcohol)

You can help.

Some gifts go far beyond a dollar amount. They tell our community, “We see you. We care about you. And we’re here to help.”

Bean's Cafe is incredibly grateful to Matson Navigation for their generous $15,000 grant in support of our Children's Lunchbox program.

This investment means more children in our community will have access to nutritious meals when they need them most. It means a child can focus a little more on being a kid, learning, playing, and growing and a little less on where their next meal will come from.

We are deeply appreciative of Matson Navigation for recognizing the importance of this work and choosing to invest in the children and families of our community. Their generosity helps us continue a program that makes a very real difference in the lives of local kids.
