🚨 ALASKA GUINEA PIG RESCUE IS FULL 🚨
We never thought we'd have to make this post.
As Alaska's only designated guinea pig rescue, we are currently at capacity. Our shelter is full. Our foster homes are full. Yet the requests for help keep coming.
Every week, guinea pigs are abandoned, surrendered, or found in situations where they need immediate care. We want to help every single one—but right now, we are running out of space and resources.
These little animals may be small, but their needs aren't. Food, hay, bedding, veterinary care, and emergency housing costs add up quickly.
Today, we're asking our community for help.

Today is National Family Day, and we’re celebrating by highlighting two of our most special boys: French Fry and Tater Tot — a bonded pair looking for the perfect family to call their own.

French Fry is our cool little man with the mullet. He’s four years old, a bit shy at first, but completely food‑motivated and always on the move hunting for his next snack. He loves to chat, chirp, and keep you company once he warms up.

Tater Tot is French Fry’s extroverted best friend. At three years old, he has a big love for people, snuggles, and following you from room to room just to tell you about his day. He’s also a professional interior designer (in his mind) who’s still deciding exactly where his hides belong. Clean up his freshly curated space and he’ll happily popcorn for you.

These two boys are kind, fun, and full of love. They’re searching for their forever home — maybe with you. If adopting isn’t possible, liking and sharing this post goes a long way in helping them find their family.

🚨 Calling all piggie lovers 🚨

Today we’re trying to help out a fellow rescue/shelter. The Valdez Animal Shelter currently has FIVE guinea pigs desperately needing loving homes. These little potatoes have spent their entire lives in shelter care, and while they’ve been loved and cared for, they deserve something every piggie should have — a forever family, cozy hideys, endless snacks, and people to love them for the rest of their lives. ❤️

Pepper & Cinnamon
Bonded sisters • Around 1 year old

Once they warm up to someone (especially someone carrying veggies 👀), these girls enjoy being handled, scritched, and even a little snuggle time. Their dream life includes each other, a permanent snack dispenser, and enough room to popcorn to the moon.

Nutter & Butter
Bonded brothers • 13 months old

These boys are still a bit timid from growing up in the shelter, but underneath that nervousness are two goofy little chatterboxes. They’ll happily sprint over for treats and gossip with you all day long. With patience and love, they could become the ultimate tea-spilling besties.

Dedenne
Single male • 8 months old

Sadly, Dedenne lost his cage mate, but he hasn’t lost his love for people. This curious little guy is full of personality and absolutely adores attention. If you want a pocket-sized emotional support pig who thinks you’re the coolest person alive, this is your dude.

Juniper’s Guinea Pig Rescue recently moved to a new location in Anchorage, giving us the opportunity to expand and provide even better care for the guinea pigs who rely on us as Alaska’s only dedicated guinea pig rescue.

We’re currently using a building on the property to house the pigs, and while it is functional for now, it needs important foundation repairs. The existing structure was not built on a proper foundation, which means the walls cannot safely support additional weight or improvements.

In order to fully utilize and improve the space, we need to complete foundation work first. Once that’s done, we’ll be able to safely renovate the interior and expand our setup to better serve the pigs in our care.
The total cost for this project is estimated at around $20,000. Every donation—no matter the size—helps us move one step closer to creating a safer, more efficient space for our guinea pigs while they wait for their forever homes.

March is Adopt a Guinea Pig Month!

Guinea pigs are full of personality — from their excited wheeks at snack time to their curious little adventures around their space. They bring so much joy and charm to the homes lucky enough to have them.

This month we’d love to introduce two special boys looking for their forever home: Mr. Frost and Greg — truly the treasure at the end of the rainbow 🌈

Both boys can be a little shy at first, but once you get them out they warm up quickly and love to cuddle. They’re also quite vocal and are true food connoisseurs who happily enjoy just about any vegetables and fruits you offer.

Mr. Frost, our handsome all-white boy, was born right here at the rescue. Greg has been with us since at least August 2024 and has been charming everyone with his sweet personality ever since.

Mr. Frost is especially curious and inquisitive about his surroundings, while Greg is a calm and gentle companion.
