We continue to be blown away by the support of our community! 💚

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the Roosevelt Summer Sundays Concert Series and donated to Food at First.

And thank you to the Summer Sundays Concert Series Committee and Friends of Roosevelt Park board for choosing Food at First as one of the organizations to support this summer.

We’re grateful for every person who tossed a few dollars our way while enjoying some great music. It all adds up, and it all helps feed our neighbors!

We loved welcoming fellow food pantry pros Andrea Cook, Executive Director of Johnston Partnership, and Patty Sneddon-Kisting, CEO of Urbandale Food Pantry, for a tour of Food at First and a chance to share ideas, talk through challenges, and learn from one another.

A special thanks to our friend Jodi Rhone with Canary Consulting Group for making the connection. Stronger relationships make for stronger communities, and we’re grateful to be part of this one 💪

🌟Supporter Spotlight🌟A huge thank you to Story County Community Foundation for investing in Food at First!

Their generous $25,000 Community Betterment Grant helped provide new tables, chairs, chair racks and more- all for our dining space - where we serve fresh meals to about 100 guests every day.

That’s a lot of meals, a lot of conversations, and a lot of people who deserve a comfortable, welcoming place at the table.

We’re so grateful for partners who help us serve our community with dignity and care💚

ISRC Hosts Sixth Annual Meals from the Heartland Event

The  Iowa Soybean Research Center at Iowa State University hosted its sixth annual Meals from the Heartland food-packaging event on August 6, 2026. More than 70 volunteers from Iowa State University, Corteva U.S. and John Deere packaged more than 42,000 meals in two hours at ISU’s Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center.
Many thanks to our volunteers and to Cargill who has sponsored the event each year with a generous monetary donation to cover the cost of the ingredients of the meals, which contain soy protein.

The ISRC hosts the event each August to celebrate Soybean Month in Iowa. Meals from the Heartland works with teams of volunteers from local organizations to package meals for delivery to food insecure people locally, across the U.S. and around the world. This year, some of the meals will stay in the Ames, like Food at First, and Des Moines areas as well as going to international locations.

🎉This year, the ISRC delivered 20 boxes containing 4,320 meals to Food at First.🎉
