New data from the NFHS shows Iowa has the highest high school sports participation (145,730 entries) per population in the country. A multi-sport athlete is counted multiple times for each sport. This is their highest total since 08-09. Here is the breakdown by sport. Volleyball is huge. Also, check out how many golfers.
