There are a number of events held throughout the year that feature a variety of activities and allow members to participate in a range of adventures throughout the day. One such event that has been around for a long time is Vertigo held this year in Trenton, Missouri.

This event has a stated theme of “Birds”. There are plans for activities ranging from Steel combat, Rattan combat, classes and various fun and games.

With multi day events like this, many people will show upon Friday night, set up camp, participate in activities on Saturday and leave on Sunday. For other members day tripping, they would come into site on Saturday morning, participate in activities through the day.

Costs for the event are $35 for adult non-members, $25 for adult members, and free for youth 17 and under.

King's Companie of Archers is an archery centered event held yearly in Calontir. It's a normal 3 day event and most people camp on-site.

This typically gathers many of the best archers in the Kingdom together for classes and archery and thrown weapon activities.

Costs for the event are $35 for adult non-members, $25 for adult members, and free for youth 17 and under.

This is the normal weekly gathering of the members of Axed Root and guests, the Society for Creative Anachronism chapter representing Ames Iowa and surrounding communities. All SCA members and interested members of the public are welcome to attend Axed Root’s local meetings and participate in the activities. There is no fee to attend a meeting and wearing historical clothing is optional.
The meeting location can vary from week to week.

This week the meeting is at the Auditorium of the Ames Public Library. The meetings generally start between 6:00 to 6:30.

There are many loaner arts and science activity kits available for local members of Axed Root. Please give us at least one day's warning for which kit you would like us to bring to the local meeting. It may be possible to loan out kits to members in good standing for use during the week.

If you plan on participating in combat recreation activities it helps us to know in advance if you require loaner armor or weapons. Please let us know at least one day before the local meeting in order to give us time to load the needed equipment

Known World Collegiums are events filled with classes focusing on a specific topic within the SCA. In this case, the event will be focused on Armored Combat in the SCA but will include Cut and Thrust combat, Combat Archery, and Siege Weapons.

The event is being hosted by the Kingdom of Northshield's Barony of Jararvellir in Wisconsin.

Costs for the event are $45 for adult non-members, $35 for adult members, $15 for youth ages 6-17, and free for children 5 and under.

It is important to remember that this is a Northshield event with different customs and rules from our Calontir events in Iowa.

The members of the Barony of Coeur d’Ennui, representing Des Moines and surrounding areas, are hosting their traditional summer event called Raid or Trade. The location is a county park that has spaces for RV and tent camping.

There are a variety of activities planned including combat recreation, both rattan and steel, Crafting and generally hanging out.

Cost of the event is $35 for non-members and $25 for members. Youth 17 and under are free.

Kingdom Arts and Sciences is one of the two Arts and Science based kingdom level events held each year. The format is much like that of a school science fair, where entrant’s bring displays of their projects to show and talk about. These make for excellent events to check out all of the different things that people are working on around the Kingdom.

There is also an A&S championship competition held at this event to determine the A&S kingdom champion.

This is a single day event where people arrive in the morning, look at the displays and talk to people during the day, generally attend court and then leave site in the late afternoon.

The site opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 7:00 PM
Cost of the event is $25 for non-members and $15 for members. Youth 6-17 is $5 and Children 5 and under are free.

This event is being jointly hosted by the Kingdom of Calontir and the Kingdom of the Midrealm.
