On October 13th, close to 100 people came together for the 2026 Joe Lemmond Candidates’ Night, sponsored by MHANYS, RSS, the Association for Community Living, Mohawk Opportunities, RISE Housing and Support Services, Unity House of Troy and Equinox. The event, inspired by the late Joe Lemmond (second photo) provided individuals, their families and the organizations that support them the opportunity to hear the priorities and perspectives of 10 candidates running for federal and state office.

This important, nonpartisan event also provided participants the opportunity to ask questions to candidates and voice their POV of the importance of mental health services, supportive housing, and community-based support.

Thank you to all the candidates, community partners, and attendees who helped make this meaningful conversation possible. Together, we can continue advocating for a more inclusive and supportive community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Behind six towering limestone columns and the imposing walls of Old Main lies more than 180 years of history, including groundbreaking developments in psychiatric medicine, a devastating fire, an assassination attempt and the stories of thousands of patients who once called the institution home.
