Last chance to view this wonderful exhibit!

One of our favorite things we get to do is to show off the incredible artistic talent we have all around us. We’re very pleased to invite you to check out Pastel Impressions, a new exhibit by local artist Trudi Jacobson!

Trudi is inspired by color: Cloud formations, sunrises and sunsets are all featured prominently in this exhibit of pastels. Come see it soon! Trudi's work will be enlivening our Community Room through Monday, October 12th.

Thank you, Trudi, for sharing your incredible talent with us!

Libby users: Your attention please!

Starting October 15th, your Libby/Overdrive account will require a 4-digit PIN to log in. Overdrive is making this update to enhance security.

Is it the end of the world? No.

Is it still mildly annoying? Maybe. Depends on your perspective, probably. Anyhow...

-Your Libby PIN is the same as your library card PIN.
-Your PIN is probably the last four digits of your phone number.
-If you don't know your PIN, give us a call at (518) 861-7239 or stop by library staff can help you reset it.

The Altamont Free Library staff get a lot of credit for our library being as awesome as it is, and they deserve it! But there’s another group of folks that you rarely see at work who play an enormous role in the life of our library: The Board of Trustees.

Library trustees have a variety of responsibilities from policy setting and financial oversight to helping with fundraisers and establishing a long range plan of service. AFL’s trustees are a hard-working and incredibly dedicated bunch of Altamont, Guilderland and Hilltowns residents who selflessly volunteer their time, energy and creativity to make our library the vibrant and essential community institution that it is.

The Board of Trustees is currently seeking applicants to fill the remaining two years of a departing Trustee's three-year term. For more information and an application, please email [email protected] or call (518) 861-7239.
Applications must be submitted by Monday November 9th.

An informational session for any interested candidates will be held on Monday, October 19th at 6pm, immediately prior to our 6:30pm Board Meeting.

In the selection of new Trustees, the Board of Trustees does not discriminate for reasons of race, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, or any other reason not directly related to the ability of a person to do the work of a Trustee, or their ability to work productively and collegially with the entire AFL leadership team.
We look forward to hearing from you!

During a recent trip to Seattle, Librarian Joe was profoundly inspired by the importance the city placed upon art, as well as their efforts to make it as accessible as possible. While still confined to the Pacific Northwest, he hastily assembled a crack team of the nation’s finest and most distinguished art connoisseurs (aka the library staff) to get to work filling this gap. And thus, ArtCart was born.

ArtCart is located in the library outside the community room and contains everything anyone could ever need to create art projects (mostly). We at the library want to make sure that we engage with and foster our patrons’ interests, so these supplies are available for anyone to use. No need to ask – just take whatever you need and get to art-ing!

So come grab a paintbrush, glue stick, or colored pencil and get started on your masterpiece. We are so looking forward to seeing what you wonderful and artistic community members create!

At thirty-seven, with a career, husband, two kids, and a house that looked like success, Chelsea Piazza Willsey found a lump in the shower — and everything cracked open. Finding Chelsea is the unvarnished story of diagnosis, chemo, and surgery alongside the unexplainable: a falling book, a voice in an empty kitchen, angel numbers, a psychic who knew too much. Cancer didn't hand her a cure or a clean ending. It brought her back to a version of herself she'd buried alive years before — and finally, home.

Please join us on Tuesday, October 20th to learn about Chelsea’s journey. She will be selling and signing copies of Finding Chelsea at the program.

Chelsea Piazza Willsey is an Altamont resident, HR executive, feng shui practitioner, and cancer survivor whose journey through illness is the foundation for Finding Chelsea, her memoir on healing, self-discovery, and coming home to yourself.
