Project Evolution & Scope
Initial Proposal (The Inns at Altamont): Focused on converting the former Peter Young Center at 1180 Berne-Altamont Road into a 30-room hotel, a 45-seat restaurant, and event spaces for up to 250 guests.
Expanded Scope (Phoenix New York 2 LLC / Daley Hospitality Group): Added plans for 30 one- and two-bedroom cabins in the adjacent wooded portion of the 34-acre property alongside the main 73,000-square-foot facility conversion.

A Landmark Achievement: Middleburgh Cliffs Now Permanently Protected! 🌲

Last week, the Trail Conference officially secured the permanent protection of 123.5 acres at Middleburgh Cliffs in Schoharie County, New York.

This rugged landscape overlooking the Schoharie Valley to Vroman’s Nose and beyond had been privately owned for years and includes a critical section of the Long Path, New York’s premier long-distance trail. By securing the property, we’ve preserved an important forest habitat, protected public access to one of the Long Path’s most spectacular viewpoints, and eliminated the threat of a future 2.5-mile road walk that could have disrupted the hiking experience.

The permanent protection of Middleburgh Cliffs is a testament to the leadership of Trail Conference staff, volunteers, and our board of directors. Through countless hours of outreach and collaboration, our team turned the goal of preserving this landscape into a lasting reality.

The preservation victory strengthens the future of our trails and reaffirms the Trail Conference’s commitment to creating more opportunities for people to connect with the outdoors. Together, we’re safeguarding open spaces and ensuring places like Middleburgh Cliffs remain accessible and inspiring for generations to come.

Bob Clifford and Dave Bourque of Historic attended the Albany County Grant Ceremony at the MVP Arena. Historic Altamont was awarded a $2,345 check to plan a historic informational sign at the end of Brandle Road/Rt 156!

Join MHLC as we partner with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Hunter Education and Backcountry Hunters & Anglers for an introduction to archery and bowhunting basics on July 25 at Bender Melon Farm Preserve in New Scotland!

The event will be split between range time and an educational presentation on how hunting regulations relate to conservation in NYS. Participants will be able to try out both vertical bows and crossbows on a variety of 3D targets. NOTE: Participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

"ALTAMONT THROUGH THE YEARS "

Sunday, July 12, 2026, 12:00-3:00, at the Village Hall, Altamont.

Photographs, documents, and ephemera from the museum and archives will highlight Altamont's railroads and transportation, local businesses, historic residences, village incorporation, the Altamont Fair and its racing history, community organizations, and the Altamont High School.

An interactive exhibit by Historic Altamont will allow guests to plot the location of their homes to those in what was then Hellebergh, during the American Revolution on a 1767 map, and children can create their own model of an 18th-century Dutch barn.

Presentations will explore the early days of Altamont, the history of stock car racing at the Altamont Fairgrounds, and a presentation by Albany County Legislator and local historian Jeff Perlee.

This event is free and open to the public. We hope you will join us for a fun afternoon celebrating the rich history of our exceptional Village.
