AMI: Today is Nelson Mandela International Day (July 18).

First declared in 2009 by the United Nations, the day honours Nelson Mandela’s lifelong commitment to justice, equality, and human rights, including his role in the struggle against apartheid. It also serves as a global call to action to dedicate 67 minutes of service to help others, in recognition of the 67 years Mandela fought for social justice.

Mandela deeply believed in education as a force for transformation. Our Executive Director Lynne Lawrence and AMI President Emeritus Philip O’Brien share their thoughts on the significance of this day.
We invite you to reflect on Nelson Mandela’s legacy and remember the power each of us has to contribute to positive change in the world.
