Congratulations to Mdabwi Ecumenical on the success of its garden project!
Funded by Assisting Children in Need, Inc. (ACN), the project is growing nutritious crops—including maize, jack beans, pigeon peas, cabbage, tomatoes, and soybeans—on 0.5 acres of land to help provide meals for 1,700 children in Malawi.
Their dynamic director, Jessie Liviel, reports that the first harvest was incorporated into school meals, reducing food costs by 35%. Even more encouraging, health authorities have recorded a reduction in malnutrition among the children.
We are proud to support this inspiring effort and grateful to the dedicated team at Mdabwi Ecumenical for investing in the health and well-being of children.

After receiving an appeal from the Machachari Arts Group in Kenya for assistance in improving sanitation at Subah Community School in Mwambara Minority Village, ACN was pleased to fund the construction of a gender-separated toilet block equipped with handwashing stations.
We are grateful for the continued commitment of the Machachari Arts Group to improving sanitation and creating a healthier, safer environment for the students and community. Their ongoing work is making a meaningful difference!

Congratulations to Director Justus Mulwa and his team at Gizzim Youth Group in Kenya’s Githurai district!
We’re delighted to celebrate the completion of their ACN-funded sanitation project, providing separate sanitary toilets and a washroom for more than 100 boys and girls.
As Director Mulwa writes, “It could not have come at a better time,” as complaints of waterborne diseases had become all too common."
The new facilities will provide the children with a safer, cleaner, and more dignified environment while promoting better hygiene and helping protect their health.

Congratulations to John Obassa and his team at Hand to Hand Education Centre in Kiligoris, Narok County, Kenya!
We’re delighted to celebrate the successful completion of their ACN-funded kitchen project. What was once a smoky and congested cooking area has been transformed into a spacious, well-ventilated kitchen, complete with a dedicated food storage area.
The new kitchen provides two meals every school day for 200 children, as well as nutritious meals for an additional 200 children from the surrounding community over the weekends.
This project is making a real difference—not only by creating a safer and healthier environment for food preparation, but also by helping ensure that hundreds of children receive regular, nutritious meals.

With an ACN grant, Brian Donaldson and his excellent Madagascar Development Fund (MDF) team have brought clean water and improved sanitation to Imiry, Madagascar.

Before this project, Imiry’s 500 villagers had no access to safe drinking water or proper sanitation. Women and girls traveled 35 minutes to do their laundry in a large pond—the community’s only available water source. During the rainy season, flooding carried animal and human waste into the pond, putting villagers at risk of water-borne diseases.

The project has transformed this situation. The pond was drained, and a raised, roofed, semi-enclosed public wash house was built above the floodline. The new water system provides clean water for both drinking and washing clothes, creating a safer and healthier environment for the community. The project may ultimately benefit as many as 1,000 children.

With ACN funding, Tingathe Development Forum in Malawi drilled a borehole at Lunga Primary School to provide students and the school community access to safe and reliable drinking water. Prior to the drilling, students had to retrieve water from a source almost two miles away.

Congratulations to Executive Director Joseph M. Ndatala and his team at Companion of Women and Children Empowerment (COWOCE) in Shinyanga, Tanzania, on their work launching a Mwanza pig farming project to support vulnerable children and their families.
Mr. Ndatala has gained valuable experience through the project and generously shares lessons that may help others interested in replicating this effort. He emphasizes that the project’s success depends on several key factors: thorough training for the ten participating families; prioritizing appropriate housing for the pigs; careful feed planning and management, particularly in the face of significant inflation; regular veterinary support; and continuous monitoring and record keeping.
Maintaining accurate records allows the families to track growth, reproduction, mortality, sales, and income generated—providing essential information for measuring progress and strengthening the project over time.

Through ACN funding, the Mapanga Community Development Organisation, led by Lawrence Zuze, has launched a self-sustaining feeding program in Malawi to support 50 vulnerable children at Nangombe Primary School and the Mapanga Community-Based Child Care Centre (CBCC). We are excited to follow the progress of this initiative as it develops. Mr. Tobias Ayugi, ACN’s Global Programs Coordinator, continues to provide guidance and support to this and to other ACN-funded projects, helping to strengthen initiatives and encourage their long-term sustainability.

Under the supervision of Mrs. Faida Rose, Deputy Coordinator for REFEADES, who is temporarily serving in place of Mrs. Apendeki, Batwa youth in Ilakala, a village in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, have launched a new rabbit-rearing project. The group has received 83 rabbits—21 males and 62 females—to raise and care for as a sustainable source of income. As the rabbit population grows, the youth will generate revenue by selling rabbits and rabbit urine, which is valued by local farmers as an organic fertilizer. This initiative provides both economic opportunity and practical agricultural benefits, helping to build brighter futures for the young participants.

Congratulations to former British Ambassador Brian Donaldson, his wife, Nicole, and the Madagascar Development Fund team on being awarded a 2026 ACN grant to install a water system and public washing facility in Imry, in the commune of Antsirabe, Madagascar.

Currently, in the absence of a reliable water system, villagers must collect water by bucket or jerry can from the nearest source—a pond located a 35-minute walk away—for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene. Laundry is also done in a large, unsanitary pond adjacent to the water source. During the rainy season, flooding causes animal and human waste to wash into these ponds, contaminating the water and exposing residents to serious waterborne diseases such as bilharzia, dysentery, and cholera.
