ASBC Foundation

ASBC Foundation The ASBC Foundation makes a concerted effort to reach students who are economically challenged, yet still excel academically despite the odds.

If requested, we provide some students with additional financial assistance, counseling, and other support. As a result, we have a 97% success rate based on first semester college GPAs of 2.0 or above. Many scholarships are for one year only, so tracking student success, beyond the freshman year, is randomly done. Since 2007, our students have attended 142 of our nation’s top universities.

The ASBC Foundation is accepting donations to the Joseph McCoy Benjamin Thomas Scholarship https://www.alfredstreet.org/stewardship/asbc-foundation/

On April 23rd, 1897, a mob of 500 people marched from Alexandria's Jail to Lee Street, where they brutally lynched Joseph McCoy, an innocent young Black man. No one was ever charged or convicted for his death. Yesterday, The Alexandria Community Remembrance Project invited concerned citizens to gather with them at the Roberts Memorial United Methodist Church in Historic Alexandria, VA, to honor his memory. Rev. Dr. Rodney Sadler, Jr. (Union Presbyterian Seminary in Charlotte, NC.) spoke with powerful honesty about the deep wounds and lasting consequences of racial injustice. He urged listeners to recognize the shared humanity that binds us all. His moving words will hopefully echo in the lives, hearts and actions of everyone who attended. AlexandriaVA.gov
