AMERICAN TURNS 250- Kentucky Statehood Day!

Kentucky—admitted to the Union on June 1, 1792, as the 15th state—has developed a growing aerospace and aviation economy supported by advanced manufacturing, logistics, and a highly skilled workforce. The state is home to a significant aerospace supply chain producing components for commercial aircraft, military platforms, and space systems, while companies across Kentucky contribute to propulsion, composites, and precision manufacturing. Kentucky’s strategic location and robust transportation infrastructure have also made it an important hub for aerospace manufacturing and distribution.

The state is also the birthplace of astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who became the sixth person to walk on the Moon during the Apollo 14 mission. Today, Kentucky continues to strengthen America’s aerospace and defense industrial base through innovation, workforce development, and partnerships that support the future of aviation and space exploration.

Tennessee—admitted to the Union on June 1, 1796, as the 16th state—has built a diverse aerospace and defense economy anchored by advanced manufacturing, research institutions, and world-class federal facilities. The state is home to major aerospace employers, including operations supporting military aviation, propulsion systems, and advanced technologies, while institutions such as the University of Tennessee, Knoxville contribute research in engineering, materials science, and space-related technologies. Tennessee’s skilled workforce and innovation ecosystem continue to support both commercial aerospace and national security missions. Tennessee’s contributions to America’s space program are closely tied to the historic work performed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, whose advanced computing, materials research, and nuclear technologies have supported NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration missions for decades. Oak Ridge researchers have contributed to spacecraft materials, radioisotope power systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies with applications for deep-space exploration, including the Artemis program. Today, Tennessee continues to play a vital role in advancing aerospace innovation, scientific discovery, and America’s leadership in space.

AMERICA TURNS 250- Wisconsin Statehood Day

Wisconsin—admitted to the Union on May 29, 1848, as the 30th state—has developed a strong aerospace and aviation economy supported by advanced manufacturing, engineering talent, and world-renowned aviation events. The state is home to Oshkosh Corporation, a major defense and specialty vehicle manufacturer supporting U.S. military mobility programs, and hosts EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, the world’s largest aviation gathering, which draws aerospace leaders, innovators, and enthusiasts from around the globe each year. Wisconsin also maintains a direct connection to America’s space program through Sierra Space’s operations in Madison, which support spacecraft environmental testing and spaceflight hardware development, while University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers contribute to Earth observation, atmospheric science, and satellite applications.

The state is home to major defense and technology firms, including Raytheon operations that support missile defense, radar, and national security systems, as well as the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport, a critical hub for defense research and engineering. Rhode Island also contributes to the nation’s space and satellite capabilities through advanced composites, undersea communications technologies, and engineering research conducted by the University of Rhode Island and regional defense manufacturers supporting aerospace supply chains.

AMERICA TURNS 250- SOUTH CAROLINA STATEHOOD DAY!

South Carolina—admitted to the Union on May 23, 1788, as the 8th state—has built a growing aerospace and aviation economy anchored by advanced manufacturing, defense, and commercial aviation. The state’s aerospace industry contributes more than $38 billion annually to the economy and supports over 143,000 jobs across manufacturing, engineering, defense, and aviation sectors.

South Carolina is home to major aerospace operations including The Boeing Company, where the 787 Dreamliner is assembled and delivered, supporting one of the nation’s most important commercial aviation production centers. The state also supports critical national defense programs through suppliers and manufacturers connected to platforms such as the Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon and other advanced military aircraft systems.

South Carolina’s universities also play an important role in the nation’s space and defense enterprise. Clemson University alumni currently hold senior leadership roles in NASA’s Artemis missions returning Americans to the Moon, including Artemis II Launch Director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson. Clemson University and University of South Carolina support research and workforce development in advanced materials, autonomous systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, propulsion, and aerospace manufacturing with applications supporting both NASA and Department of Defense/War programs.

AMERICA TURNS 250- Minnesota Statehood Day!

Minnesota—admitted to the Union on May 11, 1858, as the 32nd state—has developed a strong aerospace and aviation ecosystem driven by advanced manufacturing, innovation, and national defense. The state is home to major aerospace operations including HHoneywell which supports commercial and military aviation through avionics, navigation, communications, and propulsion technologies, including systems supporting NASA’s Artemis missions returning Americans to the Moon.

Research institutions such as the University of Minnesota contribute to workforce development and advancements in engineering, robotics, autonomous systems, and materials science. Minnesota also plays an important role in aviation operations and military readiness through assets including Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport and the Minnesota Air National Guard.

With its skilled workforce, strong technology sector, and commitment to innovation, Minnesota continues to expand its contributions to the nation’s aerospace, defense, and space exploration enterprise.

AMERICA TURNS 250- LOUISIANA STATEHOOD DAY!

Louisiana—admitted to the Union on April 30, 1812, as the 18th state—has developed a growing and strategically positioned aerospace and aviation ecosystem anchored by advanced manufacturing, spaceflight operations, and a skilled workforce. The state is home to NASA Michoud Assembly Facility, one of the nation’s premier sites for the production of large-scale space structures, where core stages of NASA’s Space Launch System are manufactured to support the Artemis program and future deep space missions.

Louisiana’s aerospace sector is further strengthened by a network of commercial space and aviation assets, including NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center just across the state line, which plays a critical role in rocket propulsion testing, and a robust base of aerospace suppliers and fabricates supporting both civil and defense programs. Institutions such as Louisiana State University and University of New Orleans contribute to workforce development and research in engineering, advanced manufacturing, and coastal and environmental sciences relevant to aerospace operations. AMERICA TURNS 250- MARYLAND STATEHOOD DAY!

Maryland—ratified the Constitution on April 28, 1788, as the 7th state—has cultivated a globally significant aerospace and defense ecosystem, anchored by federal research institutions, innovative industry partners, and a highly educated workforce. The state is home to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, a cornerstone of the nation’s civil space program responsible for leading scientific discovery missions, Earth observation, and space technology development. Complementing this presence, NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research and Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory drive advancements in climate science, satellite systems, and national security space capabilities, reinforcing Maryland’s leadership across both civilian and defense aerospace sectors.

Maryland’s aerospace legacy is deeply tied to the evolution of space science and exploration. Since its establishment in 1959, Goddard has led the development and operation of many of NASA’s most significant robotic missions, including the Hubble Space Telescope, which revolutionized our understanding of the universe, and the NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, ushering in a new era of deep space observation. The state has also played a critical role in Earth science, with satellites that monitor climate, weather, and environmental change providing essential data to policymakers and researchers worldwide.
