Recovery is strengthened through connection, purpose, and community.

At IBH Addiction Recovery, support lasts beyond treatment. The IBH REACH Alumni Support Program provides former clients with ways to stay engaged—through peer support, volunteering, events, mentorship, and connections with others who share recovery challenges and rewards.

The program helps alumni build healthy relationships, set new goals, give back, and find encouragement at every stage of recovery.

Recovery means more than overcoming substance use. It’s about building a fulfilling life of purpose, connection, growth, and hope.

Because no one should have to navigate recovery alone.

Today, we recognize Alcoholics Anonymous Founders Day, commemorating a moment that changed countless lives worldwide.

On June 10, 1935, a conversation between two men in Akron, Ohio—Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith—helped lay the foundation for what would become Alcoholics Anonymous. That day also marked Dr. Bob’s last drink and the beginning of a movement built on hope, mutual support, and the belief that recovery is possible.

Ninety-one years later, the principles of fellowship, service, and shared experience continue to help individuals and families find a path forward.

At IBH Addiction Recovery, we honor the courage of those who came before us and celebrate every person who chooses recovery today.

What does Founders Day mean to you? Share your thoughts, gratitude, or words of encouragement in the comments below.

We are grateful to share that IBH Addiction Recovery has been included in the proposed 2026–2027 Ohio Capital Budget, a meaningful investment in the future of addiction treatment and recovery services in our community.

This funding will help strengthen our ability to provide life-changing care, expand access to services, and continue meeting the growing need for addiction treatment across Northeast Ohio.

We extend our sincere thanks to our legislative champions and community partners who recognize the importance of recovery and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. Special appreciation to Representatives Derrick Hall, Bill Roemer, Jack Daniels, and Veronica Sims, as well as Senators Casey Weinstein and Kristina Daley Roegner, for their support and advocacy.

Recovery changes lives. Together, we are building healthier communities and creating more opportunities for hope, healing, and lasting recovery.

A new national study by Addiction Policy Forum found that nearly 1 in 4 U.S. adults either do not believe or are unsure that addiction is a health condition. Researchers also found that those who did not recognize addiction as a health condition were less likely to believe treatment works, support early intervention, or help a loved one seek care.

At IBH Addiction Recovery, we know that substance use disorders are treatable health conditions, not personal failures. Recovery begins when individuals and families have access to compassionate care, evidence-based treatment, and the support they need to take the next step.

Reducing stigma and increasing understanding can help more people seek help earlier and improve outcomes for individuals, families, and our community.
