Surviving Storms: An Abaca Farmer's Story
Ledesma was born into an abaca farming family and, despite facing numerous hardships and uncertainties, she persevered in her work to support a family of 11. Over the years, she has experienced both abundant harvests and devastating losses. However, recent times have been especially difficult, as powerful storms and typhoons have destroyed her crops and caused significant damage to their home.
With the support of CARE Philippines' women empowerment project in her community funded by the Foundation, she and her fellow abaca farmers gained valuable skills. They learned to explore alternative livelihood opportunities, enhance their marketing abilities, prepare for disasters, and save for the future.
