𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟭,𝟴𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿-𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲
Families in rural Timor-Leste who once spent hours each day collecting unsafe water now have clean, reliable water close to home, thanks to the generosity of compassionate supporters of Jesuit Mission Australia.

Delivered with local partner Jesuit Social Service (JSS) Timor-Leste, the Clean Water Project pumps water from a spring or underground source to a main village tank, with taps installed so residents can collect water safely and easily.

Community ownership is central to the Clean Water Project, which has improved health, sanitation, livelihoods and future prospects for almost 1,800 people. By involving local residents from the outset and supporting them to practise safe hygiene, maintain their water systems and protect their water sources, the project is designed to create lasting change.

IN THE NEWS 🗞️📰: Xavier Learning Community (XLC) in Chiang Rai, Thailand hosted a Karen traditional wrist-tying ceremony on 5 September.

Organised in collaboration with the Karen Student Club and the Research Unit for Indigenous and Ethno-Ecological Wisdom for Sustainable Development of Mae Fah Luang University, the event drew students and participants from XLC, Mae Fah Luang University, and Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.

𝟭𝟱𝟰𝟬. Pope Paul III formally approved the Society of Jesus as a religious order.

The approval came through the papal bull Regimini militantis Ecclesiae, signed at the Palazzo San Marco in Rome. The document recognized the Society founded by Ignatius of Loyola and his companions and authorized it to be established as a religious order in the Church.

Known as Approbation Day, today is traditionally regarded as the birthday of the Society of Jesus, marking the moment when the small community of Ignatius and his companions received formal recognition from the Church.

Nearly five centuries later, the Jesuit mission continues to be expressed in a simple call: to serve the Church and find God in all things.

Coming from the Ignite the Way experience in Salamanca, five participants from the Ignatian Spirituality Network (ISN) of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP) put together a workshop for Discernment in Common using presentations and guided experiences.

Participants at the workshop have experience in leading groups through the process of discernment in common. They were also given time for spiritual conversation.

The renovation of vows reaffirms their commitment to Christ and to a life of mission and service in the Society of Jesus, particularly through their studies and ongoing formation.

This Sunday, the World Day of Migrants and Refugees invites us to remember that behind every statistic is a person whose dignity, story, and hope matter, especially for vulnerable children and families forced to leave their homes.

As Jesuit Refugee Service Singapore highlights, accompaniment means walking alongside refugees, migrant workers, and communities affected by conflict and climate displacement, creating opportunities for skills, community, resilience, and dignified livelihoods through initiatives such as LEAP@JRS and community-led environmental action.

Inspired by the call to choose encounter over indifference, may we welcome even just one person with compassion, friendship, and an open heart, building communities where no one has to journey alone.
