Day 1 featured the Opening Program with welcome remarks from Dr. Darwin B. Putungan, SPP President, a message from Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr., Chancellor of UPLB, and an inspiring keynote address by Dr. Jer-Lai Kuo. The program was hosted by Ms. Anna Pamela De Jesus. 🚀

The conference also commenced with an engaging Plenary Session featuring Dr. Robin Augustine, Dr. Akhil Garg, and Dr. Jae-Hyung Jeon, moderated by Dr. Ivy Colambo. 📢

Congratulations SPP Fellow Dr. Caesar A. Saloma. Mabuhay ang SAMAHAN!

UP President Angelo Jimenez has appointed Professor Emeritus Caesar Saloma as executive vice president, effective May 11. Saloma was UP Diliman chancellor from February 2011 to February 2014, College of Science dean from June 2006 to February 2011, and National Institute of Physics director from June 2000 to May 2006. His awards and titles include: the Galileo Galilei Award from the International Commission for Optics in 2004, the ASEAN Outstanding Scientist and Technologist Award in 2008, Academician of the Philippine National Academy of Science Technology in 2005, and UP Scientist III for six consecutive three-year terms beginning in 2006. As administrator, he received the Presidential Lingkod ng Bayan Award for Outstanding Public Service in 2008 and the DOST-NAST Outstanding Science Administrator in 2010. Last year, Saloma became the first Filipino to be elected Optica fellow of the Optical Society of America, the leading society in optics and photonics established in 1916.
