The Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA) Presidents’ Lecture Series on Philippine Democracy will feature PPSA Presidents delivering lectures and convening a conversation highlighting the role of political science as a discipline in sustaining and reimagining Philippine democracy.

West Visayas State University, together with the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Philippines, invites students, faculty, researchers, and members of the community to the 2026 PPSA Presidents’ Lecture Series on Philippine Democracy on September 24, 8:30 am-12nn, at the WVSU Main Campus in the Rehearsal Room.

The forum will feature Jorge V. Tigno, DPA, Professor of Political Science at the University of the Philippines Diliman and former PPSA president, who will lead a discussion on “Philippine Democracy: How Democratic? How Resilient?” The lecture is part of PPSA’s 65th founding anniversary celebration and a nationwide series that brings conversations on Philippine democracy closer to communities across the country.

🤖 AI is transforming the future—but is the Filipino youth ready?

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concept. For young Filipinos, it is already shaping two defining moments of their lives: entering the workforce and participating in democracy. Yet the safeguards, digital literacy, and policy frameworks needed to navigate AI responsibly have yet to keep pace with its rapid adoption and development.

In the latest issue of the Adenauer Young Researcher's Report, former KAS intern Timo Ritter explores how the Philippines can move from exposure to empowerment by equipping young people to manage AI's risks while maximizing its opportunities.

May mga nagsasabing makatutulong ang mas mahabang termino para sa pagpapatuloy ng mga programa at serbisyo. Mayroon din namang nangangamba sa epekto nito sa accountability, representasyon, at karapatan ng mga botante na pumili ng kanilang mga lider.

🇰🇷 The KAS Maritime Security Advisory Network’s International Dialogue Program in the Republic of Korea concludes today!

Over the past week, the delegation travelled across South Korea—from Seoul, Seongnam, Incheon, Jinhae, Busan, and Ulsan—engaging with policymakers, researchers, naval institutions, and industry leaders to better understand the country’s world-class maritime and shipbuilding industry.

The program concluded with a final external engagement at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Shipyard in Ulsan, where the delegation gained firsthand insights into one of the world’s leading shipbuilding facilities and discussed the strategic role of the private sector and industrial capacity in advancing maritime security and economic resilience.

At the heart of these conversations was a shared question: How can shipbuilding serve as a strategic enabler of national competitiveness, maritime security, and geopolitical resilience?

For the Philippines and like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific and ASEAN, the Republic of Korea’s experience offers valuable lessons as we strengthen our own maritime capabilities, industrial ecosystems, and regional cooperation.

More than insights and ideas, the program also created meaningful opportunities for dialogue, partnership, and lasting professional connections.

As the delegation returns home, the conversations continue—informing future cooperation and policy reflection in maritime security and shipbuilding across the Indo-Pacific.

KAS Philippines shared highlights, key priorities, and outlook across different program areas, and opened the call for project proposals for 2027.

KAS Philippines is pleased to support the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA) Presidents’ Lecture Series on Philippine Democracy in partnership with the University of San Carlos.

The series began in Cebu with “Maritime Security x Blue Economy in the Philippines: Nexus and Disjunctions,” where Dr. Rosalie Arcala-Hall served as the resource speaker. The discussion explored the connections between maritime security, the Blue Economy, fisheries, and the communities whose livelihoods depend on the sea.

The lecture brought together students, faculty members, and researchers from across the Visayas for an engaging discussion on issues relevant to Philippine democracy and the country’s maritime future. 🇵🇭⚓️

This marked a successful start to the series, and we look forward to the upcoming lectures in the coming weeks.
