๐ŸŒฑ Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.

The climate crisis and the degradation of nature are among the greatest challenges of our time. Their impacts are deeply interconnectedโ€”affecting biodiversity, livelihoods, food security, health, and the resilience of communities worldwide.

Nature is one of our strongest allies in addressing these challenges. Caring for critical ecosystems not only protects the resources we depend on but also strengthens our ability to adapt to a changing climate.

At PFPI, we continue to work with communities, the government, and other stakeholders to advance integrated and locally led solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

This World Environment Day, let us be inspired anew to act with urgency for our climate and our shared future.

๐ŸŒŠ Strengthening Coastal Resilience through Science, Partnerships, and Local Action

PFPI joined marine conservation practitioners, local government representatives, and other stakeholders in a recent capacity-building workshop on coastal inundation assessment and management options in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.

Organized by the Marine Environment and Resources Foundation (MERF), with support from the COAST Facility Philippines and DAI UK, the five-day workshop provided participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in coastal inundation assessment, beach profiling, rapid reef assessment, seagrass monitoring, and blue carbon assessment. The participants learned how scientific tools and ecosystem health assessments can inform coastal planning, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation efforts.

As climate change intensifies, coastal hazards such as sea-level rise, flooding, and storm surges, healthy coastal ecosystemsโ€”including mangroves, seagrass beds, and coral reefsโ€”play a critical role in protecting vulnerable coastal communities.

PFPI remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen local capacity and advance evidence-informed, ecosystem-based solutions for climate resilience. Through partnerships in citizen science and community-centered approaches, the PFPI contributes to efforts that safeguard coastal communities and the marine ecosystems they depend on.

In celebration of the Philippine , PFPI, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources โ€“ Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) Socorro, co-led a mangrove planting and coastal cleanup activity in Barangay Batuhan, Pola, Oriental Mindoro today, May 26, 2026.

The BAYInihan sa Batuhan Mangrove Protected Area, a women-managed area (WMA) association established under PFPIโ€™s ADAPT for Bluer Coasts and Community Resilience (ADAPT) Project, participated in the initiative and provided mangrove seedlings for planting.

Also joining the activity were the Batuhan Youth Advocates for Health & Environment (BYAHE), likewise organized under the ADAPT Project, along with representatives from the DENR, Bureau of Fire Protection, Barangay Batuhan, and other local stakeholders.

As we observe the Month of the Ocean, this collective action highlights that protecting mangroves is protecting the ocean itselfโ€”ensuring healthier ecosystems and more resilient coasts for generations to come.

Mangroves serve as natural shields for our coasts, nurturing marine biodiversity, protecting shorelines from storm surges, and supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities. This activity reinforces the importance of shared responsibility for conserving these critical ecosystems as part of efforts to save our oceans.

The ADAPT Project is a four-year initiative designed to strengthen climate resilience across 12 vulnerable coastal municipalities on Mindoro Island. Implemented by PATH Foundation Philippines Inc. (PFPI) with support from the UKโ€™s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) through the Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition (COAST) Facility, ADAPT utilizes the Protected, Productive, and People (3Ps) framework to deliver scalable nature-based solutions and inclusive marine governance models.

The COAST Facility, part of the wider COAST programme, is strengthening climate resilience in vulnerable coastal communities by protecting ecosystems, improving governance, and promoting inclusive, sustainable livelihoods. Funded by the UK Government and led by DAI Global and the FCDO, the Facility empowers local stewardship and drives lasting, inclusive change for people and nature through flexible grants, technical assistance, and national reform support.

This , we celebrate the interconnectedness of people and nature, and the importance of protecting the ecosystems that sustain life and livelihoods. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒ

We are grateful for the continued support of the UK Government in advancing locally led conservation efforts with coastal communities in Mindoroโ€”from sustainable fisheries and mangrove restoration to building resilience through integrated, community-driven approaches.

Protecting biodiversity means protecting the balance that sustains us all, ensuring healthier ecosystems and more resilient communities for generations to come.

On this , we are reminded that meaningful global impact begins with local action. When communities are empowered and actively engaged, they become stewards of ecosystemsโ€”protecting biodiversity while strengthening resilience for both people and nature.

Through community-driven conservation, PFPI works alongside local organizations to nurture and build on local capacities, recognizing that sustainable solutions are rooted in the people who directly depend on and care for these ecosystems.

BAYInihan continues to grow stronger. ๐ŸŒฟ

When women are given the space and support to lead, they become powerful agents of changeโ€”not only for their organizations, but for their entire communities. With growing confidence, strengthened leadership, and collective action, these women are demonstrating how community-led initiatives can build resilience, protect coastal ecosystems, and create lasting benefits for both people and the planet.

Through the support of PFPI under the ADAPT Project, we hope to scale this initiative across more coastal communities, where women and other sectors work together toward healthier ecosystems, resilient livelihoods, and a more sustainable future.
