🚨 **NEW ROAD RULES FROM TODAY – 1 OCTOBER 2026 🚨**

There are **4 new road rules** now in effect across Aotearoa New Zealand. Here’s what you need to know 👇

🚲 **1. Children can ride on the footpath**
Children aged **12 and under** can now ride their bikes on the footpath. A supervising parent or caregiver can ride alongside them too.

🚗 **2. Give 1.5 metres when passing**
Drivers must leave at least **1.5 metres** when passing vulnerable road users such as cyclists, pedestrians, horses and riders.
If you can’t give them enough room safely **slow down and wait.**

🛴 **3. E-scooters can use cycle lanes**
E-scooters that are not classed as motor vehicles can now travel in cycle lanes.

🚌 **4. Give way to buses pulling out**
On roads with a speed limit of **60km/h or less**, drivers must give way to a bus pulling out when it has been indicating for at least **3 seconds**.

These are important changes for everyone using our roads whether you’re driving, cycling, walking, scootering or catching the bus.
