Art in the Ruapehu Community (ARC) are over the moon to announce we now have our own Creative Space, hosting regular art evenings and workshops.
Our Creative Space was inspired by Ida Te Waiata Hamm, who dreamed of a community hub where people from all walks of life could come together to be creative, share company and kai, or hold community events and meetings.
We invite you all to come along to our Open Day on Saturday 20 June. We will have clay and paints available for all those who want to try their hand at creating some art of their own. A Mini Exhibition of paintings, drawings, weaving, book making and more, will show some examples of what we’ve been working on lately, with some of the art available for sale.
Located at the back corner of the Cosmopolitan Club, where the old TAB rooms were, the Creative Space is a large, well insulated room with excellent natural lighting and a small kitchen. We have tables, easels and floor coverings set up ready to go, with lots of art supplies available for members’ use. If you’re looking for a space for a community event or regular activity, the space is available to hire for members of ARC and associates (and you are welcome to join).
Every Thursday we hold an Art Evening from 5.30 to 8.30pm, which you are welcome to join. Cost is $5 for members of Art in the Ruapehu Community and $10 for Non-members (or join for $10). We have art materials available, and we welcome you to bring your own art supplies and projects you are working on. Tuition is available from art teacher Kathryn Davis for $10, or work on your own with inspiration and assistance from the group. Everyone is welcome, from complete beginners to expert artists, any age or ability. This is a friendly, informal get together where you can share inspiration, ideas and techniques, and enjoy a chat with a biscuit and a cuppa, or head over to the Cosmopolitan Club for a meal afterwards.
