Fifeshire Foundation

Fifeshire Foundation Since 1993 the Fifeshire Foundation has been helping our own community. Real help, where it's needed Over the year we give out over $200,000 to people in need.

Since 1993 we have been helping people in Nelson/Tasman who are facing financial hardship and domestic crisis. Each month our voluntary Fifeshire Foundation trustees consider 30 - 40 applications. If applications are successful we can pay doctor's bills, buy fridges, deliver firewood and much much more, on people's behalf. Our work is only possible because of the generosity and donations from local families and businesses. Nothing is spent on administration. 100% of our donations goes directly to help people because all our administration costs are covered by local businesses.

We're profiling some of our most important volunteers who make Fifeshire Foundation tick, our amazing Trustees! Meet Cam.

Cam is an ecologist by trade but has also qualifications in business and management. He runs a successful green consultancy and loves to be outside in nature whenever possible even when the weather is foul. The incredible native plant assemblages up on Mt Arthur inspired Cam to get his first tattoo at age 51. Cam and his family moved to Nelson 2 years ago. Cam is a true introvert and has always felt the need to help others. Cam has also done a bunch of training in alternative therapies. Cam couldn’t live without: his Apple Music subscription.

"Keen to be involved because I had the time and capacity to help and Fifeshire Foundation was doing the work that is needed in the community."

This story from RNZ is a sobering reminder of the real impact the cost-of-living crisis is having on people's health. Christchurch's Mayor's Welfare Fund has seen a significant increase in requests for help with dental treatment, prompting dental costs to be tracked as a separate funding category this year.

Unfortunately, this is not just a Christchurch issue.

At Fifeshire Foundation, we are increasingly concerned by similar patterns appearing in other regions, where individuals are postponing essential dental care simply because they cannot afford it. When treatment is delayed, health outcomes worsen and costs escalate.

Everyone deserves access to basic healthcare, including dental care. The growing demand for charitable assistance highlights the need for sustainable solutions that ensure no one has to choose between their health and their finances.

Christchurch's Mayor's Welfare Fund has paid more than $200,000 to assist people with dental and electricity payments as the cost of living bites.

Shoutout to RWCA Accountancy + Advisory

We’re thrilled to announce a strengthened partnership with our long-time supporters, RWCA Accountancy + Advisory.

RWCA have been alongside Fifeshire Foundation for many years, generously supporting our use of Xero and providing trusted advice. When we discussed with Belinda and her team about assisting with our end-of-year accounts, they were incredibly supportive, and we were delighted to officially welcome them on board as our accountants.

The process this year has been seamless, giving us confidence that our financial reporting is in expert hands and allowing us to focus on what matters most, supporting our community.

A heartfelt thank you to Belinda and the entire RWCA team for your ongoing partnership, professionalism, and commitment to the work we do. We truly appreciate your support.

Support from Rotary Club of Nelson West

Shanine had the pleasure of speaking as a guest at the Rotary Club of Nelson West meeting earlier this year, where she received a warm welcome from members of both the Nelson West and Nelson Rotary Clubs.

During the meeting, Shanine shared the story of the Fifeshire Foundation's beginnings and highlighted how the Foundation supports local people and whānau experiencing hardship or crisis.

A heartfelt thank you to the Rotary members who generously give their time as volunteers for Fifeshire Foundation and for the club's wonderful donation of $2,500 in support of our work.

With winter power bills, sports fees, and travel costs continuing to rise, this whānau has been working hard just to get by. Support from Fifeshire Foundation means their children can now attend school camp alongside their friends, opening the door to new experiences and lasting memories. 😊
