Become a Volunteer with Citizens Advice Bureau Nelson Tasman!
"I was amazed by how professional and thorough the training was. It gave me the confidence to help others and solve real problems," says a CAB volunteer.
At CAB, you’ll help people to find answers and options, using a wealth of information and resources. Sometimes, a touch of creative thinking is all it takes to make a difference!
Our comprehensive training program combines classroom sessions, self-directed learning, and mentoring. It will give you the skills and confidence you need to provide this invaluable service to your community.
Training for 2027 starts mid February but spaces are limited—don’t wait to secure your spot!

💛 Celebrating some very special CAB milestones!

At our AGM, we were delighted to recognise the long-standing commitment of some of our wonderful volunteers.

🌟 Jill – 40 years
🌟 Bill – 25 years
🌟 Heather – 20 years
🌟 Nigel – 10 years
🌟 Denise & Carol – 5 years

We also presented a Certification of Appreciation to Johanne for her many years of contribution to the Bureau.

Between them, these volunteers have given decades of service to CAB Nelson Tasman and CAB nationally, sharing their knowledge, experience and time generously along the way.

🚗🚙🛻When buying a vehicle privately, you are not protected by the Consumer Guarantees Act or the Fair Trading Act, however there are some simple things you can do to reduce your risk when you buy privately.

👉Get a vehicle inspection
👉Check that the car has a current Warrant of Fitness
👉Check that the vehicle registration is up to date
👉Check that the Road User Charges (RUC) have been paid
👉Check that the car is not stolen or has money owing on it
👉Check if the car is subject to a safety related recall

If things go wrong after you have bought a car in a private sale, you can take a claim to the Disputes Tribunal.

📣You may be covered by the Contract and Commercial Law Act:

👉if you can prove that the seller misrepresented the vehicle and that the misrepresentation caused you loss or
👉if the seller was not the legal owner of the vehicle when they were selling it.

💛Dozens and dozens of people come to us each month, hundreds every year. They look for support, advice, and a listening ear as they work through what are often very difficult life situations.
We provide our services for free across the whole Nelson Tasman region, contributing to the wellbeing of our community.
✨ Today, we would like to recognise the generosity of our funders and express our sincere thanks for their continued support of our local Citizens Advice Bureau and, by extension, our whole Nelson Tasman community.

Happy Volunteer Week!

This week we celebrate our amazing CAB volunteers – and the incredible mahi aroha (work performed out of love and caring) they do for people in our Nelson and Tasman communities.

By generously giving time, knowledge and skills, they help people find information, understand their options, and feel supported through challenging situations. Every conversation, every act of kindness, and every effort has a positive impact.

💛💛It’s National Volunteer Week | Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu💛💛 (14 – 20 June), and we want to celebrate all our volunteers for their mahi aroha. This year’s theme, our Year to Volunteer – Tōu tau ki te tūao, has been chosen to mark International Year of the Volunteer 2026. It both recognises those who already volunteer and encourages others to give it a try.
🙌To our volunteers - thank you for your skills, passion, manaakitanga (support/kindness) and dedication to serving our community. This week and throughout the year, we celebrate and cherish you. We appreciate you every day, but this week is all about you - honouring you and everything you do for the CAB and the wellbeing of the people who come to you for support.
