Happy Volunteer Week!

This week we celebrate our amazing CAB volunteers – and the incredible mahi aroha (work performed out of love and caring) they do for people in our Nelson and Tasman communities.

By generously giving time, knowledge and skills, they help people find information, understand their options, and feel supported through challenging situations. Every conversation, every act of kindness, and every effort has a positive impact.

💛Thank you for your dedication, empathy, and manaakitanga (kindness, respect and care). We are grateful for all that you do and proud to have you as part of the CAB whānau.💛

💛💛It’s National Volunteer Week | Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu💛💛 (14 – 20 June), and we want to celebrate all our volunteers for their mahi aroha. This year’s theme, our Year to Volunteer – Tōu tau ki te tūao, has been chosen to mark International Year of the Volunteer 2026. It both recognises those who already volunteer and encourages others to give it a try.
🙌To our volunteers - thank you for your skills, passion, manaakitanga (support/kindness) and dedication to serving our community. This week and throughout the year, we celebrate and cherish you. We appreciate you every day, but this week is all about you - honouring you and everything you do for the CAB and the wellbeing of the people who come to you for support.
💫Ehara taku toa I te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
My strength is not mine alone, but the strength of many.

UPDATE ON FUNDING CUT TO WELLINGTON CABs: We are devasted at the decision made today at the Wellington City Council’s Grants Committee meeting to approve the cut in funding for our Wellington CABs.

Citizens Advice Bureau Wellington’s vital service of information, advice and support reaches over 11,000 people throughout the city every year. With the impacts of the high cost of living, continuing cuts to the public service and further job loss in the city, the support the CAB provides to the community is becoming more critical than ever.

Our CABs need every cent of the approximately $230,000 per annum they have been receiving from Council to support Wellingtonians. Yet today the Council slashed that funding to just $100,000. This puts at risk the survival of the CAB service in Wellington. It has been done with very little notice – just a few working days - and no robust rationale. We are reeling from what has been done to our Wellington CABs and the way it has been done.

We are going to fight this because it is not right and it cannot stand.

We will need your help in this. Please watch this space.
