We’re pleased and proud to announce that Braden Longstaff, our Assistant Crew Leader, was awarded with his Baden Powell Award during the formal dinner of Mythology Moot 2026. This award is presented to someone who has shown extensive and outstanding commitment to the aims of the Rover Section.
Braden Longstaff is by far one of the most active Rover in the Lower North Island, and in fact, even as a Leader in the Lower Hutt Zone. Braden’s passion for the Scouting movement is truly inspiring; there is not a day in the week where he isn’t attending a Scouting event or catching up on admin for one of his many Scouting roles.
Braden Longstaff has provided outstanding and sustained service to both Valley Rover Crew and Orongorongo Rover Crew since joining the Rover movement in 2020, consistently demonstrating strong leadership, dedication, and a genuine passion for Scouting. He has held multiple leadership roles including Assistant Crew Leader, Treasurer support, and Crew Leader, where he focused on strengthening crew culture and supporting members. As Crew Leader of Valley Rover Crew, he successfully delivered on and exceeded his goals, growing membership from 18 to 34, increasing service involvement, and rebuilding trust across the wider Scouting community through reliable delivery, particularly in catering. His impact has been significant and long lasting, recognised through the award of Valley Rover Crew Lifetime Membership, and he also played a key role in the successful revival of our crew (OO) iin late 2025.
Scouting as a movement is built on volunteers. It’s built on people who give up their time and energy to create opportunities for others. Braden is one of those people who doesn’t just show up, but consistently goes above and beyond in everything they do. It’s people like this who remind us what Scouting is really about.
We’re incredibly proud of Braden Longstaff for receiving this well earned award, and it was great to have his family there to share the moment with him.
