Last week OO had the privilege to crash Eddies last Monday night in the rover section. Eddie presented a slideshow about his scouting life, showing him throughout his childhood. On Saturday night we participated in a stock-take fundraiser for The Warehouse Upper Hutt, we were given scanner guns that made cool sounds and were assigned sections of the store to scan.

On Monday night the crew had a Jump Jam/Just Dance night. We all got on the dance floor and showed off our moves, following the projected video. We also ran a Jump Jam song, remembering the moves from our childhood.

Last weekend we celebrated Eddie's booting as he ages out of Rovers. Eddie joined rovers back in 2019 and has made many memories with every rover he has encountered on his journey, he will be greatly missed by all of us.

Huge shoutout to for hosting an epic booting. We were stoked to catch up with the crews from across the country to give a legendary mate the send off they deserve.

Due to the storm earlier this week, we had to pivot and run our planned rover night online! We shared the meeting link around, so also had brief visits from Deans Rovers, Mince (our local rover advisor), and Caitlyn/Rusty (our national rover advisors). 🐗🟡⚫️

We’re pleased and proud to announce that Braden Longstaff, our Assistant Crew Leader, was awarded with his Baden Powell Award during the formal dinner of Mythology Moot 2026. This award is presented to someone who has shown extensive and outstanding commitment to the aims of the Rover Section.

Braden Longstaff is by far one of the most active Rover in the Lower North Island, and in fact, even as a Leader in the Lower Hutt Zone. Braden’s passion for the Scouting movement is truly inspiring; there is not a day in the week where he isn’t attending a Scouting event or catching up on admin for one of his many Scouting roles.

Braden Longstaff has provided outstanding and sustained service to both Valley Rover Crew and Orongorongo Rover Crew since joining the Rover movement in 2020, consistently demonstrating strong leadership, dedication, and a genuine passion for Scouting. He has held multiple leadership roles including Assistant Crew Leader, Treasurer support, and Crew Leader, where he focused on strengthening crew culture and supporting members. As Crew Leader of Valley Rover Crew, he successfully delivered on and exceeded his goals, growing membership from 18 to 34, increasing service involvement, and rebuilding trust across the wider Scouting community through reliable delivery, particularly in catering. His impact has been significant and long lasting, recognised through the award of Valley Rover Crew Lifetime Membership, and he also played a key role in the successful revival of our crew (OO) iin late 2025.

Scouting as a movement is built on volunteers. It’s built on people who give up their time and energy to create opportunities for others. Braden is one of those people who doesn’t just show up, but consistently goes above and beyond in everything they do. It’s people like this who remind us what Scouting is really about.

We’re incredibly proud of Braden Longstaff for receiving this well earned award, and it was great to have his family there to share the moment with him.

Max Webb - Helen Thomas Memorial Trophy Recipient for 2026

The crew is beyond proud to reveal that Max Webb was awarded the Helen Thomas Memorial Trophy at the closing ceremony of Mythology Moot 2026.

This award is presented to someone in their first 2 years of rovering, who has shown outstanding commitment to service within scouting and the community.

Helen Thomas was a proud member of the Richmond Rover Crew here in Lower Hutt, making it even more special that Max was awarded the trophy. He joins a list of many Lower Hutt Rovers to win the award, including ex-OO Rover Jared Thomas, and current OO Rover Braden Longstaff.

Just some of the reasons Max was awarded the trophy include his roles as: Secretary with our crew, Group Leader and Scout Section Leader at St Augustines Scout Group, Scouts Aotearoa National Council Member and National Program team. Alongside this he played an integral role in restarting the Orongorongo Rover Crew, lead a big expedition at Venture’26, and contributes hugely to local Sandford leadership courses/zone camps.

The presentation was made even more special with Max/Braden’s fellow Scout Leader Tui Ellington attending to present the award. Tui was in the Richmond Crew with Helen, and was also on the rafting trip where she passed away. It was beyond special to hear some words from Tui and see him present Max with the award. There was barely a dry eye in the horseshoe.

Final Day at Mythology Moot 2026 🇬🇷

After all the fun and all the action, we finished off moot with closing ceremony on Monday morning. Our crew is extremely humbled and excited to share that we took home the following awards:

🏆 Zulu Shield: One of the most prestigious awards a crew can win. Awarded for the most balanced Rover program. Amber and Braden can be very proud of the effort they put into compiling the logbook this year!

🏆 Best Dressed: Awarded for our 3 costumes of Harold the Giraffe, Hazmat Suits, and Yellow Togas. All 3 costumes were bright yellow and made a great impression. A huge shout out to Amber, Fintan, and Jasper for the effort put into our costumes.

🏆 Mens Tug of War - Runner Up:
Both OO teams made it all the way to the semi-finals, where they faced off against each other!

🏆 Helen Thomas Memorial Trophy - Awarded to Max Webb

The crew is back home and catching up on some much needed sleep now! A huge congratulations to all the crews who won awards, and thank you to MOC for an awesome 1st Moot back for the crew.
