Did you know a motorised wolf is helping protect Lake Rotoroa? Yes, this guy with a motor! While that might sound unusual, it's one of several initiatives being explored as the Whakamana ki Rotoroa Working Group works with Council on the next steps for improving the lake's health.
Other work underway includes investigating stormwater filtration systems and ultrasound technology, student-led surveys of duck and geese behaviour next weekend, and a summer student project to remove pest fish from the lake.
Alongside all of this, volunteers continue the hands-on work of planting and weeding around the lake's edge. Here is a photo from the weekend’s action including chocolate cake!
It's encouraging to see community members, researchers, students and Council all playing a role in restoring one of our most treasured lakes in Kirikiriroa!
