Plus Bus Dunedin

With two clients away there was less chitter chatter on the bus today but what a stunning day to be out and about. We enjoyed a very laid back shop checking out products, wondering how we've managed to survive all these years without owning them, and wandering down aisles we don't usually frequent! Of course it was fun. And then a stroll over to the Post Shop to look for birthday cards. Talking of which, our very own lovely client B is having a birthday on Thursday. It's not polite to ask ladies how old they are but let's just say quietly there are several numbers in the 90s she has already experienced!

Negotiating the roadworks, the orange cones, the stop/go people, the temporary lights.... makes for an adventurous trip just getting to and from the Supermarket. Luckily our driver N knows his way around the Dunedin streets so the detours don't bother him.
We encountered blustery winds as I escorted A and K to the Post Shop and Money Machine - they were well grounded as I was hanging on to them tightly! Once in the Supermarket everyone goes their own way unless help is needed. Our lovely clients look out for each other and give directions to the Specials or items that might appeal. If you don't find it fun going to the Supermarket, why not come with us!

Sunshine, warmth and happiness - all the ingredients for a terrific morning grocery shopping. It's great catching up on all the activities that have happened since the previous Tuesday. Noticing a hair cut, a new brooch, hearing about an outing and new additions to families. Plus Bus is more than just transport, we're friends who care for each other.

What a superb morning to be out and about in the van. It's been a long time since it's been warm enough to leave the van doors open while our first clients to return wait for our other lovely clients to finish shopping. There's a lot of chit chat as we pass each other in Woolworths, commenting on specials, and there's more chit chat when we get back to the van. A comment about a cashier's sparkly engagement ring led to a lovely chat, as she scanned products, about when and where her wedding will be. The cashiers all know us as we're regular Tuesday shoppers and it gives us a lovely sense of community.
K's skirt, she made it herself, attracted a lot of attention so she kindly posed for me as she got back into the van.

It was a beautiful sunny morning to be out and about, especially for our Plus Bus Shoppers. All five shoppers were in fine form and K regaled us with tales of family get togethers, near deaths, misplaced keys and ambulances. And why wouldn't you ask an ambulance to stop for an icecream when you were being transported from one hospital to another!!! There is no subject we're afraid of talking about on our trips.

And of course the reason for our trips - grocery shopping! Plus we had side trips to the Post Shop and the Chemist today. Come join us, we're all very friendly and we'd love to meet you.

A blustery cold day for shopping but no snow on the ground which was pleasing. We are not keen skaters! There is never any hurry when you shop with Plus Bus. Clients can whizz around Woolworths or have a leisurely shop looking at new products and taking time to make decisions. Once everyone is settled and belted up we head off homewards unless, there is a story to be told or a joke to be shared. Then we sit in the cosy bus in the carpark and pay attention. We're all great listeners on our trips.

What a glorious morning to be out shopping with our Plus Bus clients. So pleasant not to be scurrying into the supermarket seeking shelter from the wind. A little variety today with a side trip to the Post Shop with one client, and giving meat purchasing advice to another client. I'm vegetarian and know nothing about meat but apparently the meat I chose for her last month was beautiful! Our Plus Bus service is great for our clients and educational for me! Every week we wonder what route we will travel as more cones and detours appear. That's not a bad thing - our clients get to see different streets and views!

Another fun outing to the Supermarket. N parks the van in one of the Disability Parks at Woolworths so our clients don't have far to walk. He even brings trolleys right to the van, they're great for stability when walking. A side trip to the Post Office with K and then we were off following her shopping list around the aisles. On the homeward trip there were stories shared, explosions of laughter, comments made about roadworks and detours, and people remembered. Plus Bus Tuesdays are magical.
