One of the things you will commonly hear from David Seymour’s and Winston Peters’ bum lickers is that “they’re not trying to re-write the Treaty, they’re just trying to re-write the principles of the Treaty”. Don’t let this fool you into thinking that this is somehow less of an attack on Māori Treaty rights. The principles of the Treaty are the very mechanism through which the Treaty is enforced. In other words: re-writing the principles of the Treaty equates to re-writing the Treaty itself.
