Wānanga Tuatahi Reflection 🌿
Our first wānanga was a powerful reminder of the depth, wisdom, and connection that sits within our kaupapa.
We started with Rhonda Hira White sox legend & Olympian, who shared some absolute gold nuggets that you won’t find on uncle Google 👀 From her lived experience she spoke about dedication and drive, and the importance of visualisation, journalling, reaction drills, and having strong game day rituals. She also reminded us of the power of teamwork, and the importance of looking after our tinana and our people both on and off the field.
We then moved into Te Rahi a Māui with matua Hepz and Jacob, where we explored whakapapa as a way to connect deeply with others we share space with. They brought to life the purakau of taonga tākaro and how these traditions carry knowledge, skill, and identity across generations.
We finished with Jamie Ogilvy researcher, sports psychologist & weightlifter. She shared powerful kōrero on Ikura, the menstrual cycle. She helped us understand the different phases and what each represents, not just for our kōtiro, but so our tāne can also grow in awareness and understanding of what our kōtiro experience each month.
A huge mihi to everyone who supports our kaupapa. We wouldn’t be able to pour into our rangatahi leaders without the collective support that surrounds us.
