A huge ngā mihi to our amazing Auckland coaches and volunteers who joined us for our Coaches & Volunteers Evening last week! 💙

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, share experiences, celebrate the impact you're making, and strengthen our Speed Freaks whānau.

We're incredibly grateful for the time, energy and heart our volunteers and coaches bring to sessions every week.

Welcome to our new Ōtautahi Christchurch Programme Coordinator, Jordyn Yee! 💙

We're thrilled to announce that Jordyn Yee has stepped into the role of Programme Coordinator for Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Jordyn joined the Speed Freaks whānau through our wāhine group in 2022 and has run 5 km parkruns to 12 km trail and inspired us all with an epic Mountain Climb in Arrowtown. Along the way, Jordyn became a Peer Support Worker, sharing her lived experience to encourage and inspire others in their recovery journeys.

Having completed qualifications in Health and Wellbeing and Lived Experience Practice, today, we're incredibly proud to see her take the next step into leadership.

As Jordyn says:
"I have shared my lived experience throughout this journey not as a story of where I have come from, but to inspire others about where they can go."

Jordyn is quick to acknowledge the people who have walked and run alongside her, including the Speed Freaks whānau, her partner Harley, and their five children.

Her journey is a powerful reminder of what can happen when people are given support, connection, and the opportunity to believe in themselves.

Please join us in congratulating Jordyn on this well-deserved role. We can't wait to see the impact she'll continue to make in our community. 💙

🏃‍♂️👟 Help Keep Our Freaks Moving! 👟🏃‍♂️

We're putting out a call to our amazing community!

Right now, our shoe cupboards (mainly in Ōtautahi) are running seriously low on men's running shoes, especially sizes 9-13, with sizes 10, 11 and 12 needed most. If you've got a pair in good condition, we've got just the feet for them.

A huge shout-out to our incredible shoe collection partners who help make this possible: 💙 Shoe Science: Shoe Science Newmarket Shoe Science Albany and💙 Further Faster Christchurch: Further Faster

💙What an amazing start for our Tāmaki Makaurau Millwater Community Group!

We now have record numbers for a new Speed Freaks group, with all abilities connecting through running. Here's a few words from Lead Coach Ben Fraser:

"After five years volunteering with Speed Freaks, it's been such a privilege to help launch the Millwater Community Run and watch this beautiful kaupapa come to life in our local community.

There was clearly a real need for this in the north of Auckland. Our numbers have grown almost every week, and this week we had an incredible 36 people join us!

What makes it so special is the people. We have an amazing group of volunteers, supported by long-time Speed Freaks peers leading by example and showing our newer whai ora what is possible. People aren't just coming along, they're coming back, building connections and becoming part of the group.

Seeing that sense of achievement, belonging and pride is what it's all about.

I'm incredibly proud to be part of it and excited to see where the Millwater crew goes from here."

This week another seven people earned their shirts on the same day! Ka mau te wehi!
