A new meetup series where Founders show up and ship
Hackaotearoa has been quietly growing out of GridAKL over the past two months. Started by James Smejlis, the series brings together founders and solo builders for focused work sessions and demos. Four events in, it’s already reached 60+ people.
The goal is simple: less talk, more building, and momentum that comes from working alongside others. This community is looking for new members. You are invited to join with the next meetup, Friday 15th May,

After a great response in previous years, we’re excited to bring the Indie Game Showcase back, continuing to highlight the talent and creativity coming out of Aotearoa’s game development community.
 
Join us for a free, all-ages event celebrating local game makers and developers here in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Come along to:
• Play 20+ unique and original games
• Explore everything from story-driven adventures to VR experiences
• Meet the creators behind the games
• Connect with a growing community of creatives and innovators

This event has become a space for discovery, where developers share their work, test ideas, and connect directly with players, peers, and industry.
