Planning's Core Role in Reducing Natural Hazard Risk

IAG has released a major report today called A Long-Term Approach to Natural Hazard Risk Reduction. The report highlights gaps & future needs that collectively limit NZ’s ability to reduce natural hazard risk. It also outlines a possible 15-year roadmap to strengthen NZ’s risk reduction capability.

Importantly from NZPI's point of view, planning is seen as a core element of both the gaps & the solutions. The solutions in the road map echo points NZPI has made about planning for natural hazard risk in numerous submissions over recent years, including strengthening national direction & establishing an adaptation planning regime. The report highlights the value of planning in risk reduction.
