🇳🇿🤝 Community Information & Support Forum for the Taranaki Filipino Community and Migrants 🌄

The Taranaki Filipino Society Inc warmly invites members of the Filipino community and migrants living in Taranaki to join us for an afternoon of information, discussion, and community connection.

Inspired by the Filipino value of bayanihan—working together and supporting one another—this forum aims to provide practical information and connect people with valuable resources and support available in New Zealand.

Our guest speakers include:

👨‍⚖️ MP PAULO GARCIA – Discussing immigration matters, employment rights, wills and estate planning, and other legal topics relevant to migrants and their families.

💼 SAM KODI – Multi-award-winning Financial Adviser and Founder & CEO of Smart Adviser, sharing practical guidance on home ownership, KiwiSaver, retirement planning, and financial wellbeing.

🏛️ MP DAVID MACLEOD – Providing updates on government policies, local issues, and services available to support migrants and the wider Taranaki community.

STATEMENT OF SYMPATHY FOR THE PHILIPPINES EARTHQUAKE
& THE LOSS OF LIFE OF SO MANY.

With heavy hearts, we at Taranaki Filipino Society Inc. have learned of the devastating earthquake in the Philippines that has claimed 37 lives, with many more still missing and families waiting for news.

We feel deep sorrow for every life lost, for the families grieving, and for all those whose loved ones are still unaccounted for. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of pain and uncertainty.

To the families and friends affected — we share in your grief. Even from here in New Zealand, your pain is our pain. You are not alone. The Filipino spirit is one of bayanihan, and we will stand with you in prayers as you face the days ahead.

We ask everyone to keep the victims, the missing, the injured, and the rescue workers in your prayers. If you have family back home, please reach out to them.

If you need someone to talk to here in Taranaki, “mostly the newly migrated Filipinos’, pls don’t be afraid of reaching out.

We are all busy but we can always make a way.

The Taranaki Filipino Society Inc. (TFSI) received an invitation from Taranaki Migrants Connection (TMC) Narayan Kutty(KSM) to participate in the World Heritage event held on Saturday( 23-05-26).

During the event, TFSI's President, Emily Sang, led the assembly in singing the New Zealand National Anthem, while TFSI cultural dancers showcased two traditional Philippine dances.
Gratitude to Dinalyn, Raven & Cora for maintaining our cultural dance group.

The first dance, 'KANTA NA PILIPINAS’, is a vibrant celebration of Filipino talent, unity, and culture, featuring diverse cultural heritage & costumes from various regions of the Philippines. This dance encourages Filipinos to unite, share their talents, and persevere.

The second dance, 'SISSIWIT', is a traditional Igorot dance that symbolizes freedom and features the separation and reconnection of birds. It's also a demonstration of harvesting rice. The lyrics convey longing and lost love, often interpreted as bittersweet. Originating from the Cordillera region in Northern Luzon, Philippines, the dance is characterized by a cheerful and inviting melody despite its sentimental lyrics.

Events like this foster a sense of connection, friendship, sharing of differences, unity, and acceptance among ethnic groups within the community.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Migrant Connections Taranaki (MCT) for uniting us by hosting and sponsoring this event.

Thanks to the presence of our number one supporter HON. MP DAVID MCLEOD & HIS WIFE, they added more value & respect to the occasion.

We express our appreciation to Narayan, Anu, and her husband, and the MCT team for continuing the late Geetha Kutty’s legacy (the founder of MCT) and for continuing to support us Filipinos and other ethnic communities. We also thanks them for allowing us to post these photos on our page.
