🧵 Donation Drive: Old Shirts Needed for 'Sewn Up' Upcycling Course! ♻️

Soroptimist International North Shore is thrilled to announce another free, beginner-level 'Sewn Up' Upcycling Sewing Course!
Our award-winning programme teaches local women practical, hands-on sewing skills focused on textile repurposing and waste reduction. In this upcoming session, participants will learn how to breathe new life into textile waste by transforming old button-down shirts into beautiful, practical tote bags keeping usable fabrics completely out of Auckland landfills!

👔 How You Can Help
Because we proudly keep this community course completely free for all participants, we rely entirely on your generous material donations.
We are looking for:
• Old, but clean cotton shirts (button-downs, patterned, or plain)
• Similar lightweight, durable woven cotton garments or fabric remnants.
Every donated shirt will give a beginner sewist a chance to practice a lifelong sustainable skill and create something unique.

💚 THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR SUSTAINABLE FASHION & WELLNESS DAY A SUCCESS! 👗♻️

What a wonderful day - and thanks to everyone who came along, donated, volunteered, swapped, shopped, bought raffle tickets and supported our event.

Together, we raised $300 from the clothing swap and raffle, which will go towards Heal the Teal, Soroptimist International New Zealand’s national project supporting ovarian cancer awareness and research. 💙

A very special thank you to:

⭐ North Star Eatery for generously supporting our raffle with prizes.

⭐ Our wonderful volunteers who helped set up and pack down, brought clothing rails, contributed clothing and helped keep everything running throughout the day.

⭐ Hannah from Thread Lightly for bringing her fabric swap and helping us encourage people to give unwanted textiles a new life.

⭐ Emily from McKenzie & Maude Wellness Clinic in Milford, a Swedish massage and facial therapist who shared some useful techniques to help us clear out any toxins from our lymphatic system.

⭐ Everyone who donated clothing and helped make our swap and $5 clothing sale possible.

⭐ And, of course, everyone who attended - whether you came to refresh your wardrobe, find a bargain, swap some clothing, enjoy a cuppa, enter the raffle, learn something new about sustainable fashion or simply support our cause.

Your support helped us show that sustainable fashion can be practical, affordable and enjoyable - while also making a difference for women’s health.

Wellness at our Sustainable Fashion & Wellness Day Tomorrow

We are delighted that McKenzie & Maude Wellness Clinic from Milford will be joining us for our Sustainable Fashion & Wellness Day.

Emily Munt, a Swedish massage and facial therapist, will be sharing information about her approach to targeted bodywork and gentle stimulation, with a focus on supporting nervous system regulation and lymphatic function.

Come along to find out more about how gentle, targeted bodywork can form part of your personal approach to relaxation and wellbeing.

We're looking forward to having Emily join us and bringing another dimension of wellness to our day.

Our Sustainable Fashion & Wellness Day is now less than a week away, and we're excited to share some of the wonderful prizes that have been donated for our raffle! 💛

🌿 Made from scraps – ready to brighten up your garden! 🌿

We've been putting some of scrap fabric to good use and have made a small batch of colourful handmade bunting – each one a little different. 💛🧡💜💙

Rather than letting those leftover pieces of fabric go to waste, they’ve been given a new life as cheerful decorations for gardens, parties, celebrations and outdoor spaces.

We've made just half a dozen to bring along to our Sustainable Fashion & Wellness Day on Saturday 12 September, so if you love a bit of colour and handmade charm, come along and take one home!

🧵 We're delighted to welcome Thread Lightly to our Sustainable Fashion & Wellness Day!

Thread Lightly hosts community events where people can donate, swap, and take fabric and craft supplies. They also work with charities and community groups to ensure donated materials are passed on to people who can use them, helping keep valuable textiles out of landfill.

On the day, Thread Lightly will be hosting a Fabric & Craft Supply Giveaway Table. Browse a wonderful selection of donated fabrics, sewing notions, yarn, and other craft supplies - perfect for topping up your stash or inspiring your next creative project!

Donations of fabric and craft supplies are welcome but not essential. Come along, have a browse, and discover how creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Together, we're helping reduce textile waste, supporting our community, and giving quality materials a second life. ♻️💚
