We need to see more of this word — Survivor. 💗
More people surviving cancer. More families getting more time together. More stories of hope after a diagnosis.
And getting there starts with the things we can all contribute to — greater awareness, earlier detection, education and support.
It’s a word we hope to see written many, many more times. That hope sits quietly at the heart of what we do at United Against Cancer.

The Fiji Cancer Society has highlighted something that should concern all of us — fear and stigma around cancer can still stop people from seeking or continuing care. Behind that are real people and families, and opportunities for earlier care that may be lost.
For United Against Cancer, this reinforces why we take cancer education into the University of Auckland. By starting these conversations with young people — particularly those from our Pacific communities — we hope they travel home to parents, grandparents and wider families across New Zealand and the Pacific. Education can challenge fear. It can challenge stigma. And one conversation can reach far beyond the person sitting in the room.

💛 SEEING OUR IMPACT FIRST-HAND

Team UAC recently had the privilege of visiting the Cancer Society Auckland HQ in Grafton to learn more about the incredible work they do and, most importantly, to see how the funds raised through our Shine Bright Gala are helping make a real difference.

It was incredibly meaningful for our team to see first-hand how our contribution is supporting the Cancer Society and the vital services they provide to individuals and families affected by cancer and the Volunteer Driving Service we are supporting

This visit was a reminder that every ticket purchased, every donation made, and every partner and supporter who stood behind our Gala contributed to something much bigger.

From everyone at United Against Cancer, thank you to our partners, sponsors, guests and wider community for helping us turn one special night into meaningful impact. 💛

🌏 PROJECT ANZGITA SPOTLIGHT

United Against Cancer is proud to have made our first $5,000 sponsorship to ANZGITA, supporting its work to strengthen healthcare capacity across the Asia-Pacific region.

For UAC, this project is about more than funding—it is about building and supporting healthcare capability. By investing in the training and development of local doctors and healthcare teams, knowledge and skills remain within communities long after the training is complete.
Endoscopy is a key tool in the investigation and detection of gastrointestinal cancers, making access to skilled clinicians and high-quality endoscopy particularly important.

We are pleased that our first sponsorship will contribute towards this practical, sustainable approach to improving cancer detection and healthcare in our region.
