What's up this week!

It has been another vibrant and inspiring week packed with cultural celebration and community connection.

9th Multi-Ethnic Dance Festival 2026: Soared through an incredible showcase of rhythm, color, and heritage on stage. It was amazing seeing so many diverse communities come together to celebrate culture and expression through dance!

Youth Mentorship in Action: Had a fantastic catch-up over lunch at Kabul House for some meaningful youth mentorship conversations. There is nothing quite like sharing good food and supporting the next generation of leaders as they pave their paths forward. Grateful for the energy, stories, and connections that make our community so strong. Looking forward to what the rest of the month brings!

It has been an incredibly busy, fulfilling week full of community connections, learning, and cultural celebrations.

Empowering Community Governance: Hosted our ANCAD LiiFT workshop, "From Governance to Action: Creating a Clear Board Workplan." It was inspiring to see community leaders come together to share insights, build capability, and lay strong foundations for actionable leadership.

World Humanitarian Day at Parliament

We attended the World Humanitarian Day event at Parliament in Wellington, hosted by the Council for International Development Aotearoa New Zealand. It was an inspiring gathering reflecting on global humanitarian efforts, upholding dignity, and recognizing frontline workers who serve communities in times of crisis.

We had the privilege of experiencing the incredible Indigenous fashion and weaving showcases during NZ Fashion Week. Seeing traditional knowledge, cultural storytelling, and sustainable craft brought to life by Indigenous designers was deeply inspiring.

Our team at Auckland North Community and Development - ANCAD joins the wider North Shore community in honoring the memory of Jill Nerheny QSM.

Jill’s legacy lives on not only in the community spaces and projects she championed, but in the leaders she inspired along the way—including our mentor Jenny, who brought Jill’s spirit of community care and service into our own daily work.

We extend our sincere thoughts and aroha to Jill’s family, friends, and everyone touched by her lifetime of service.

ANCAD is saddened by the recent passing of Jill Nerheny QSM, a much-loved community champion who retired at the end of last year after almost four decades of dedicated service.

Social Cohesion Hui hosted by Belong Aotearoa: spent a day catch up with old friends meeting new friends. Gathered with community leaders and advocates to discuss building stronger, more inclusive networks across our diverse ethnic communities.

Our Ocean of Islands Exhibition hosted in New Zealand Maritime Museum: Explored maritime traditions, shared histories, and the deep cultural connections of Oceania.
